Post by Jeff K »

Today is the first day i wish i never got my MX-3. Don't get me wrong i love it but this makes me very very mad. Not only did the girl across the street back into my car, WHILE IT WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY!!!!! Also i discovered my radiator leaks, i burn oil, theres a werid clicking sound when i take left turns, and oil is coming out of my valve cover gasket, o and lets not fer get the brakes. when i stop my brakes or somthing makes a noise as i break. Now i wish i never got my MX-3!

I dont think thats your cars fault. Sounds like a little preventative maintenance is needed. Im sure all of those problems didnt just pop up.

Hey, I just got an email from your MX-3, saying it's P.O.'d at YOU for not being there to help it escape damage when that girl across the street was getting ready to back into it... :P

Is the girl across the street cute? Maybe she can make you dinner as payment.

Radiator... get a new one and it's probably a good thing to change your coolant.
Burning oil... maybe your valve seals or your piston rings... as long as you keep it topped up, you don't have to worry about it that much. Unless you got Air Care like us here in BC... BOO!
Click sound... that's your CV joint most likely...
Valve Cover Gasket... that's an easy fix and if you do it yourself you only have to pay for the gasket which is about $20.
Brakes... THIS is what I'd fix first! You probably need new pads or shoes... but it's better than crashing cause you can't stop.

I'd do the fixes in this order... brakes, radiator, valve cover gasket... cv joints when you got the money (I've been driving around with mine clicking for a long time)... then your oil problem.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

id say buy my b6t and tranny and ill throw in a free axel and it needs a head gasket so ill have the block and head off and clean them both off for you. and ill throw in a 626 intercooler with all the lines and all the intercooler piping. its got the vj 14 turbo and say $650 takes it. if not thats alright ill just throw the internals into my spare b6de block and use it in my car when i finally pay off my debt for the 2 engines 3 trannies and all so yah i think you have it good compared to what ive been throuhgh in the last year....

Um, I'm going to have to advise against running your vehicle and then opening the radiator cap. Unless you give the engine ample time to cool down the pressure will cause the hot antifreeze to blow out of the radiator after you remove the cap. So unless you want to get burned and/or blind then don't do that. The egg thing works for small holes so it is worth a shot if you plan on replacing the radiator but just need a temp fix. Open the cap, drop in the egg, THEN run your car.

Again, if you have to drive before opening the radiator cap make sure you allow the engine to cool first.

BTW, while the egg does work, I'm sure it probably isn't the best thing for your radiator. I would only use this if you plan on replacing the radiator. The egg will stop the leak but it is in no way permanent. It is after all, just going to be a fried egg blocking the hole.

I've never met a radiator problem that didn't just end up needing it replaced (besides if it is the hoses or something like that).
