My car is effed..

Post by propagandhi420 »

first of all.. where is the standard transmission forum? anyways..i was driving through toronto the other day, and i was shifting from 1st to 2nd and i heard/felt somthing through my shifter.. i pulled over right away, but i couldnt figure out what was wrong.. i tried driving it back to my buddies place and i realized it only happens when i let off the gas and the revs are comming down in every gear but first.. i can really feel it through the shifter as if somthing is grinding or vibrating at the other end of the shifter.. i tried putting the car into neutral while slowing down and it still grinds in neutral!!! the only time it isnt grinding it when i'm stopped or pressing on the gas in gear.. i dont know much about cars...anyone have any idea?? please!!! i'm dieing without my car!!

First thing I'd do is check the fluid. Make sure it's full and not black or dark brown. It should be red. If it's low drain it and re-fill it.

What fluid are you talking about? Tranny fluid? Not in a stick shift hopefully.

Might be your syncros going bad...You will probably need a rebuild.

Yeah, MT's won't shift well without fluid. Trust me. Also they can lose it through the axle seals. I'm not saying tha's his problem from sure, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

check to make sure that your shifter is secure the long arm that let's you shift has a bolt that holds it to your shifter it is probably lose i had to fix mine and it doesn't make any noise now ! check it if there is play like it's lose then you have to replace the bolt . . . just so ya know it's a pain in the a-- and depending on the year of your car your might break the bolt . . just go easy on it if that's what it is .... good luck
