Cold air intake possible?
I have a '94 DOHC, and I'm just starting out in the world of car preformance. Just about everything is new to me.
Anyway...I went down to my local Napa and bought what the K&N said was a cold air intake that would fit my car. I took it home and decided to try to figure out how to put it on. I wasn't able to figure it out, so I had my dad look at it. He also, was unable. I went back to Napa and had them look at it. They said it would not work, as it didn't fit.
Does anyone know whats wrong? Did K&N get their catalog numbers wrong or something?
Oh, as a minor sidenote...what does BPT stand for?

bpt is a turbo engine that you can swap in the mx3 i believe its from a protege or a 323 gtr.....
95 rs with custom short ram air, b&m short throw shifter, probe 2.0L header with 2 1/4" exhaust all the way back, catco high flow cat, apc high flow muffler with 4.5" tip, accel 8 mm wires, blaze red, cf altezzas, gun metal 17" mr7s, slotted cross drilled rotors on the way with hawk hps pads, red and white interior, other then that its stock.

What was the part number? My book says for a 94 MX-3, you need a 33-2083. It also doesn't list a FIPK kit made for the car, so did you just buy a filter? I just looked again, and the filter is the same for all years of MX-3.freakyalien wrote:I have a '94 DOHC, and I'm just starting out in the world of car preformance. This is really irritating me...K&Ns website lists only a "57i" kit, which i'm fairly sure is not what i had in hand. I'm not really even sure what a 57i is...
All these numbers and things are making my head spin...like I said, I'm a beginner in the world of cars, please dont' abbreviate
At the time I had the intake, i looked it up online after it didn't fit...it was indeed, for a 1.6 4 cylinder. Also, it was not the filter...
although that was another confusing issue. It actually was just the round filter that typically goes on the end of the intake. That, and a thing that was supposed to attach to my air sensor...anyway, it had no tubing which suprised both myself, and the highly intelligent guys at napa...not meaning disrespect to any napa employees here...
If I can figure out this whole mess, i would be extremely grateful, as I've heard that an intake is a cheap means of extra HP, and I'm sorely lacking in that department

Prolly for the SOHC...
Just take off the box and throw on a cone filter with a adjustable clamp.

Take that kit back to Napa. If they sold you the wrong part or a part that wont fit let them deal with it. If you look on ebay for an intake for the MX-3 they only have SOHC models. EVERYTHING I have seen and heard says these will fit on our cars with either no or little modifications. I will be ordering one myself later on. Take it for what it's worth bro, and good choice with your mx lol...
It might be slow, but it's not a civic!

i made a custom short ram air style and it wasnt really that hard and well its pretty much given me the same effects as a cold air intake...

alright...that makes sense...well, except for the fact that it was supposed to be specifically for my car...but anyway, where can i get one of these? I'd assume ebay, but what exactly am i searching for? MX-3 adaptor plate?sk8erdude28 wrote:Ok. That's a universal cone filter. I'm not sure about the MX3, but on my Escort, to make that work, you need an adapter plate (about 5-10 bucks). Then it'll bolt on.
