How to take a few hundred pounds from your MX-3. Pics inside

YOU TAKE YOUR DAMN ENGINE/ TRANNY OUT!

Well, we took my BP out over the weekend after not being able to diagnose why it would not start for over 2 months now. I have a remanufactured BP in my storage room, so taking this one out was not a big deal. The new one will go in the car in a few weeks after I buy all new sensors for it. The ones that Dave left in the current BP had load of RTV sealant all over them and who knows how the car ever ran at all.

Check out his "Bolt" that we found doing some duty somewhere:

I am sure it was holding very well with NO THREADS!

The car looks funny with no engine in it. It sits VERY high off the ground now with all that weight missing. I think it is higher than stock!

BTW, to those who have been following my progress about my non-running BP the past few months, here is why it would not start:

The reason it would not start was do to a missing key in the keyway of the crank. So the crank was basically spinning whenever it wanted, and was not lining up with the Crank Sprocket. So- it basically would never start.

Nice huh?

BTW- I have Jamex Springs and Tokico blue Struts- so the car sits VERY low normally.

We never did find the keyway. It vanished into thin air!

With the crank pulley bolt blocking the entire sprocket/keyway assembly, we were baffled how this piece found its way out....

Yeah, it happens. It's fairly common in older B6T's and early Miata engines.

Yeah I am aware that it was a problem with some of the Eary BP's and I have some good websites with all the info on it.

THat motor was junk though, honestly. And, when you have a ZERO mile remanufacured BP Long Block waiting to go in, we just decided to rip the old one out and use my new one!

sucks that you had to remove the motor to fix the problem, but congrats on the new long block.

Eeyaggh Perry, I'm still jealous of that steal you got on the reman'd BP.  Good to see it's gonna get used though. btw, I take about 200lbs. weight off my MX-3... every day when I get out of it. :P Unfortunately, there is no way for me to then test drive the car at that reduced weight... :?
