New KLZE..What do you think.

Post by solo_ryder »

Ok, I just got an email with some info on the motor I have been trying to get forever. I need some advise. The motor comes to about $1800 CAD shipped and taxes in.... Here are the compression results:

V6 2.5L KLZE curved neck millenia manifold
Cly 1 - 181
Cyl 2 - 180
Cyl 3 - 179
Cyl 4 - 183
Cyl 5 - 180
Cyl 6 - 181

Here are some pics...

When looking at the motor closley it looks like a K8 due to the IM having a logo for one, and secondly the cruise control nipple is on the wrong side of the IM....any input?

Are these pics you took? If so did you take a look at the heads for the correct stampings? If pics sent by vender - walk away, may be their attempt at a scam. Definitely looks like a K8 IM and the water thermosensor array looks K8 - ZE was one thermosensor shy. Sorry to burst your bubble, probably best to find out this way before spending money. Must be other sources available in the lower mainland.

No it's ok John, this is from a vendor and I know what I am getting myself into. I was going through a reputable shop here and everything he has gotten from them is really good. However, this does not seem to be the case...I may have to make a trip to the lower mainland and find a motor there.

Hardly "new" like the topic states....

That's definitely a K8 IM, it's not the goose neck on the left side

Thats a K8 intake manifold... therefor STAY AWAY from that engine. It is probably a K8....

Jordan, may I recommend a good read on the attached thread. There's some good info that you can gleen from this stuff. Although millaj01's pics are apparently no longer supported, I think you'll find that that has to be one of the best sourced ZE's I've ever seen. I think he was prudent in being specific in getting a ZE with the Millennia IM and TB and ensuring that he verified the heads, cams and pistons. Those that will remember it was an extremely clean looking engine. He lives near the Detroit area and had it shipped from a supplier from the east coast. I believe his costs were approx $850usd for the engine and approx $125usd for shipping. Very good price IMO. I can probably understand your desire to source within Canada, but I believe that the source for millaj01's engine was one of the better ones. Add an extra $100.usd plus $125 duty and taxes (these are a little on the high side to be safe), you're still looking at $1,200.usd which is still cheaper in the long run. Another alternate possibility would be to find out from the MX West boys (James or Taras) what would be good places to investigate for a quality ZE. Something like this, you don't want to cut corners on or rush into, but I would definitely stay away from those creatons that tried to pawn off that K8 as a ZE. Good luck.

Look for the stampings, it'll say K8--- if it's 1.8l, and KL---- if it's a 2.5l

When I was sourcing a ZE I put together this to send the suppliers to make sure I got what I wanted.

http://barrykclark.com/klze.htm

this may help.

Also, if it has EGR, or even an exhaust manifold with the EGR port, its not a JDM engine.

While those are fine compression numbers for a cold engine ....... that intake manifold is MOST DEFINITELY N-O-T a KLZE manifold. The ports are oval, not rectangular like they're supposed to be.
