Performance Results (aka Racing Stories)
Not to mention names but a recent story was posted and summarily closed by the staff. Although some of the subsequent posts were edited I was most disheartened to see it closed and not find out the results of his mods. I understand the rationale behind not having this particular forum available (although most accepted in other reputable BB's) I believe there is still merit in what can be gleened off of these stories. Let's face it, a good majority of us don't have the luxury of being near or being able to use track facilities to engage in our modification efforts in these controlled environments. The truth be told, we occasionally test our mechanical prowess on the road. I'd like to think we would do such a thing so as not to put ourselves or others at risk. I'm not too concerned of who beat who or what beat what as in "Kill Stories" although they do make for interesting reading and I can see this BB's intention not to glorify it in any way. But I do most certainly like to hear the results of someones modification efforts. It may prove an excellent tool for others who may be of a like mind or idea as far as performance upgrades and tuning adjustments. Whether the results of someones performance upgrade or tuning adjustment was demonstrated on the track or the road should have no bearing on the benefits that can be achieved by being able to post those performance results in a way as to not glorify street racing. I basically like to see the cause and effect benifits of these mods which in the long run would be an asset to other BB members. Whether it was achieved on a track should not be the only caveot as to it's worthiness to be allowed to be posted. The 4 cyl and 6 cyl Forums deal mostly with problems and not necessarily the after effects. The management was looking for suggestions / recommendations. If a sub-section of the 4cyl and 6cyl Forums could be incorporated as in the PT BB where those members could post "Performance Results", this may be our way of implimenting this issue. Or one separate Forum where the member must precede his post be identifying that it's a 4 cyl or a 6cyl (as in the case of the for sale forum where the use of abbreviations and paranthesis are used). It doesn't hurt to give this venture a try and I for one would like to see other's performance results. Your comments?....

After losing a friend from a street racing incident this weekend I must say that no I dont want to hear about your gloriful stories of smoking a GSX-r 1300 on the highway.
Not because I dont care, because that must've been f*ucking sweet! But imagine the immature members that dont know the difference between a secluded two-lane, double-divided highway (dont even get me started on having a passenger in the car too) and a busy 50kmh limited street? Next time they see a sweet looking civic (if there is such a thing) while downtown in their shitbox, they are going to race it not thinking about consequences and *MAYBE* something will happen.. and even WORSE: maybe they'll take the life of someone else.
We all know street racing exists, and we all know your KL-ZE with mods will smoke a 1.5L stock civic with 30lb rims, so why take a chance for nothing?

Here's a Performance Result from this week:

RIP Kev Pilon
Employees at the McDonalds across the street reported that they could hear the passenger screaming while the wreck was burning. f---ing sadTuesday, August 16, 2005
OTTAWA -- An early Tuesday morning crash in the Gatineau region has left one man dead and another injured.
Police say a vehicle was travelling eastbound on Saint-Raymond Blvd. at a high speed when it went over a hill, lost control, struck a tree and burst into flames.
The passenger, 21-year-old Kevin Pilon of Aylmer, died at the scene.
The male driver suffered burns to his arms but was able to get out of the car.
Police say alcohol and excessive speed were likely factors in the crash, but have not yet laid any charges.

RIP Kev Pilon

ya I know that sucked Eric, but the accident was because of drunk driving, not street racing.

I got up this morning and for some reason I thought about street racing ... especially what went on down in Quebec during the Ottawa meet. Some people call 130-140 "cruising". People were going way faster than that in Quebec ... some kids could be playing on the road .. some car could be backing up out of their laneway ... etc ... if you kill someone you screwed up your life .... and of course the family of this child/person. OR kill yourself, get paralyzed .. etc. I would hate to lose any of you.
I'm sorry if I don't join the rest of you in those high speeds .. I know the thrill of it ................. but I try to use common sense.
Ya I'm not one to take high risk chances but at least if anything happened they cannot say I was "racing".
You have to take this on the race track .. don't put people in jeopardy for your selfish ways on finding out how the 4 cyl or 6 cyl did after modifications.
bmwm3guy I am really sorry about your friend.
Just my point of view.

160 in a 50?!?!?!?! Thats phucking retarded!!!
Man, everyone has had those little races with people.. It might be a 80 zone or something and you give a little shot of gas up to 100 and that will be it. The thing about here is that there is not any organized street races or anything. Ive seen these dvd's with a huge crowd of people on the sides of the street cheering them on.. that would never happen here.. there are about 5 people with modifications done to their engines.. and about 2 of the cars work.. me and my friend with the tiburon.
The only thing that might happen is the occasional rolling race that Ive seen. I must admit I was bad the other night when an acura nsx pulled up along side me. I dont know what it is that comes over you sometimes but I usually just like crusing and occasionally do some boosting around when I am all alone. I just dont know what came over me when I saw that nsx.. The guy who owns it thinks he is all that and a bag of chips so I just had to waste him. We were going so fast when it was over I just couldent believe that I did it. A friggin neon started to pull out into my lane and I was like 'screw this' and stopped immediately. He continued being a complete retard and kept on it.. I called it quits at like 110 (60 zone) and I dont know what he went up to but hes completely insane.
I dont see myself ever doing that crap again, its just not worth the risk, and as you say.. youre putting everyone else in danger. Me and my best bud with his turbo tiburon... We go out alot and all we do is cruise around town, go to tim hortons and get a coffee, talk about cars and stuff and thats about it. Weve never raced because we value our cars too much. I remember showing my dad my friends tib and he said to us "Dont you boys go racing eachother in those" I was like "You gotta be kidding.. I have too much invested in this car to go wreck it somewhere." I think he thinks I do it but I dont.. Thats the type of thing you do when you turn 16 and you and your friend get your licence the same time.. is all youll do with the car because youre young and stupid.
bmwm3guy, Was he a really really close friend of yours or did you just know him? I had a friend with a cavalier done up who died in a small plane crash. He wasent a really close friend though.. more like someone I knew only because of the car and stuff. I never hung out with him or anything. Its still a god dam tragedy.
I was thinking about it the other day, it is completely obsurd that people die. How insane.. like, for gods sake its 2005! With ipods and psps, heart transplants.. cloning! How is it they can split the atom but cant cure cancer? What the hell is going on here? People need to get their asses in gear and find a cure for death and aging. I hear that they have almost developed a cure for the type of aging that makes you old.. (Theres also the aging as in development.) I cant wait till they release that gem. Think about it, eventually death will just be a joke to fix. If someone dies in a motorcycle accident you just truck them on over to the hospital and they bring you back to life and release you the same day in time to catch 'what about bob' on tbs. Anyway I suppose I should stop rambling.. Im at work by myself and just thought Id post my thoughts. Sorry for the long message.
Im also sorry for your friend bmwm3guy.. Hes modding cars up in heaven now.

I just re-read my original post to confirm if I've said anything missleading and for some reason people believe I'm promoting street racing or kill stories. I'll say it again, I'm not!! Performance results!! It is not necessary to describe the surrounding issues - the other car, where it happened, etc. Was it a rolling run, or dead stop start, how was your reaction time, shift points, did you use boost, how much, how did it compare with a previous mod, how does the new mod perform, future mod plans to correct this or that, if time slips are available - post them too, dyno sheets - post them too, etc. See where I'm going with this. I totally agree with all those who invalidate some of those insane choices of where and when and how it happens. Please try to keep things into perspective. Urban areas, road conditions, drunk driving, etc, are not within the areas I wish to address. There must be a way of conveying our little victories or losses without glorifying street racing per say. BTW, don't think that I am unfeeling, as I do know the consequences of racing as I have a brother who has spent the last 15 years in a wheel chair as a result of racing (in a controlled environment I might add - Shannonville Motorsport Part).

no he wasn't a close friend, but he was the kinda guy that everyone knew and was everyones friend. A really good guy, and well respected in the community. It is messed up to think that a guy I saw a few days ago is now gone.
hey jschrauwen... I dont want you to think I was attacking you or your idea. It WOULD be nice to hear about those stories. Some of them are just awesome!
But what you have to consider is the reprocussions of 16-17 (ish) year olds who JUST got their car and now wanna be 'cool' like some of the members who were lucky enough to have a car that can smoke an NSX.
I know sensoring peoples kill stories on mx-3.com is a drop in the bucket vs. all the crap out there that is acting as almost a peer-pressure for young guys to show off to their friends. But you gotta start somewhere, right?
Not enough people have a 'take it to the track' attitude and you can ask babybluemx3 or me... in our area it is retarded the amount of kids with honda's and sideways ball-caps that drive like 'tards.
I dunno.. maybe Im just thinking like a pansey b/c of what happened this week. but phuck guys... Life is precious and it can leave you so quickly.
We need to make 'Taking it to the track' the cool and right thing to do. Where accidents can be contained or avoided.

If I tell you a true story about abortion - am I endorsing or promoting it?
If I tell you a true story about a political event - am I endorsing or promoting it?
If I tell you a true story about same sex marriages - am I endorsing or promoting it?
If I tell you a true story about 2 cars speeding out on an old country road - am I endorsing or promoting speeding or racing?
Of course not, I'm telling a story, nothing more, nothing less. None of us has the power to control how people react to different stimuli. Does that mean that in order for you to protect me you are going to sensor any and all stimuli, namely, Street Race Stories. I'd like to think were all adults here and that controlling mechanisms like these are to say the least excessive. I'd like to hear any closet lawyers views on this, as the only other viable reason for this sensorship would have be legal liability issues and not just a sweeping decision on the part of the managing staff. Perhaps clarification is in order. I hope you all don't think that if we don't talk about it, or post about it, that street racing is not going to happen. It will, whether we post about it or not.

I can't imagine any legal liabilities unless the forum "incited" or "encouraged" illegal activities that resulted in a situation. Even then I can't imagine there being a problem for the actual owner / administrator / moderator provided there were terms and conditions stated for usage of the board (All content on this site is the opinions of the personal contributors and not necessarily those of management blah blah. We take no responsibility for the acuracy of any information blah blah nor the outcome from following any process, procedure blah blah blah).I'd like to hear any closet lawyers views on this, as the only other viable reason for this sensorship would have be legal liability issues and not just a sweeping decision on the part of the managing staff.
But having said that, what admin will allow is completely up to them. They may have their own reasoning for allowing / banning subject matter. Hey its their board so we play by their rules. I think this forum has always been run in a sensible manner and respect whatever decision is made regarding this issue.

[quote="bmwm3guy"]no he wasn't a close friend, but he was the kinda guy that everyone knew and was everyones friend. A really good guy, and well respected in the community.
I am sorry for your loss and not to be rude but like I have said many times that everyone makes there own decisions and the results of those decisions people have to live with he chose to be in the car with the other guy and do what they did. I worry if this was a well respected and looked up to person in your community how is your community doing because there was alcohol involved and high speed driving on a city road, and if people look up to someone who does this what does that say for the safety of those people and the decision making of those people. Franko you can't ever stop death and if it ever came to that life would suck even more death weeds out over population and weak people sometimes some of the great people to but like my sig says death is the only thing guarunteed after you are born. Once again BMW sorry about the loss and J I think you are right we need a forum were we can post that kinda stuff. In fact we should be able to post any street racing story even ones were someone dies because things like that are beneficial to stoppping street racing. You cant stop things by not showing the bad parts.
