Low deep sound from the Mazda MX-3

Post by Mazdaspeed96743 »

Sup guys its me again well um my friend had a '92 Mazda MX-3 and only mods to his car is an exhaust and I rode his car a several months ago and I remembered the car having a loooow loud growl when he accels slowly how does it sound like that?? My MX has a Sebring Tuning Exhaust (4inch wide pipe)

video clip of my MXs exhaust =

http://www.zippyvideos.com/179791815542705.html

and it doesn'y sound even close to my friends MX. He doesn't have a air intake either only mods is an exhaust. Well he said its a better engine in his mx or something like that but I forgot what he said. So is it maybe the BP or BPT swap that makes the car sound really low and a loud growl because I want to get this intake for my MX=

Image

will this help with the sound too? what else makes the mx sound like that? ex:headers ect.

I have a Ractive exhaust on my 93 auto RS. It also has a loud, yet low bass growl when I am moving at slow speeds also.
If you fall, then get back up........Luck favors the prepared

I have a Turbo'd BP with a 2.5" exhaust back to some "Premium Touring" Muffler the guy had out back. Also the stock 1.6L Cat is there opened up to run 2.5". It sounds real nice and more quiet but I am betting most of that is due to the Turbo. Once it starts spooling around 10 PSI the Turbo is the loudest thing then the RFL BOV :)

They *are* expensive, but what do you expect when the whole company is one guy in his basement? Personally, I think they are excellent, I used to have one, but the one I had was for a 2.5 probe, and it fell off the while I was on the highway lol :D Anyway, they are built well, and if I had the $$$ for another one right now, i would get it in a heartbeat. Right now I'm gathering the money for Barry's Porsche headlights.

This is some frekin fat exhaust pipe but I think the rest of the piping is the stock muffler piping because its really rusty. But anyways, Thanks guys but yeah can someone record the sound of the PRM intake if anyone can because im just wondering how it sounds thats why :D

whoa today I seen this red MX-3 going out of a parking lot and then the lady starts the MX okay no big deal right? And then when she took off the car had this loud @** deep growl like WHOOOOOOOOOOOOM. My reaction to that was like "Whooooooa Daaaaaaammmmn I didin't know MX-3s can sound that good" I think she has a bp swap guarantee. because my car has only an exhaust and it doesn't sound even close to that  okay sorry guys I had to share that to ya's

I loved my PRM intake but the custom integra intake is a much better route I always reccomend it.

Maybe the lady had a hole in her exhaust?

By the way, doing a BP swap isn't gonna make it growl. :S

It all depends on your exhaust system setup... headers? high flow cat? muffler?... and sometimes a CAI might make it sound different, like throwing a cone air filter on where the box use to be.

It's more your muffler that creates that howl than the size of the pipe.

When they installed my high flow muffler they cut off my rusted stock one... then they held different mufflers up to the end while the car was started to give me sample of what it would sound like. I was going for a quiet sounding high flow muffler.

This one called the Fireball was the loudest... it looked pretty much like a straight pipe.
