CAI Question #234232903903930

Post by Citizenska »

Just installed the 90 -93 acura integra intake. For the most part I researchd alot of tutorials on here which all were great. There's ajust a few questions that have been kind of vague. So here it goes.

1. On the metal intake hose there are 2 nipples to plug lines into. I plugged the small blose hose that you unplug from the stock box into the the first small nipple and then the blue hose that came with the kit I plugged into the larger nipple. The problem is the larger black hose you unplug from the accordian with the pvc connector will not fit into the blue hose. Did other peeps buy a new hose to connect these 2? Right now I have them hanging. I can hear shrilly wiffs of air coming from the hose. Should I connect these 2 or seal the blue hose connected to the intake nipple?

2. Has anyone enlarged the hole that the battery cooler pipe comes up through for the intake? Is this more effective if done?

3. Do I need to oil the filter? If so how exactly is that done and with what (newbie)

The car feels more responsive and really pulls around 4k RPM for me. Sounds awesome as well. Such a fun mod. I've seen some people mention hydrolock and I really don't see how that would happen when the intake is behind the left light, it's pretty well protected.

Last none CAI related question. I have the 93 SE model. The cetner console by the clutch sticks way up and I hit my elbow on it when shifting. Has anyone done any interesting changes to fix this?

Definitely oil that filter. Otherwise, airborne particulate matter will be drawn into your engine - never a good thing. Assuming you have a cone style cotton fiber encased in screen mesh type filter right? You can buy a kit from K&N called Recharger Filter Care Service Kit p/n 99-5000 from AdvanceAutoParts or similar parts store. It includes filter oil, which you must apply now, and a cleaner for servicing the dirty filter later before you re-oil it. That oil is required on cotton/mesh type filters to catch smaller dirt particles that would otherwise enter your engine.

You CAN enlarge that hole, but you will have to relocate your horn to do so.

I actually cut into the fender frame at the bottom there so my intake is actually just inside the left side of the bumper (nice and open to cool air, but protected against most splashes)

I just slip the blue vacuum into the black (stock) one and it was just fine

I don't even know what you're talking about.

Agreed, must confirm first if it's paper or gauze type element. Again, as neutral said the gauze must be oiled and K&N is the simplest way to go. If not gauze... get one, will last the life of the car if cleaned regularly. It's especially good to have in damp, moisture laiden climates as paper type will constrict air flow more thus creating a richer than necessary mixture and just simply reduces air flow and air availability. Can't recall what type my 90-93 unit came with...still using previous gauze type. Blue hose that comes with kit "should" be able to tightly fit inside the black hose from the "T" junction with a little persuassion and I used stock clip to prevent slippage. DO NOT leave those hoses disconnected. This will create havoc with the info from the VAF to the ECU creating all sorts of idle and mixture issues. If unable to connect the 2 hoses then plug the fitting on the aluminum intake tube and attach a mini gauze type filter on the end of the stubby hose from the "T" junctioned PVC hose. Correct on the small hose - formerly from the filtered air side of the air box, it will go to the small fitting on the aluminum intake tube.
