Whats your redline.

Post by Custommx3 »

I was talking to someone on AIM and he stated that his 92 GS auto redlined @ 7000 RPM.

I had a cluster from a GS and it was @ 6500 RPM, as was all the aftermarket gauges Ive seen (not custom ones).

If you have a RS or GS, lets find out what your TRUE redline is according to OEM gauges. Post pics of OEM gauges only and list your cars year/model/tranny.

Redlines at 7. Just remmeber that aftermarke gauges will read 6500. Ignore the red and take it there! :P It still has a bit power over 7 but well i rarely do it.

Why would the engines redline be any different with auto? It is still the same engine.
My guess is that cluster you got wasnt the original one.

7000 here..

not much power after 6500 though, or certainly doesn't feel like it, so I usually change at 6500 ish, - altho that last 500rpm sounds bloody amazing, you get this hard-edged scream to the general noise, so sometimes I just have to leave it.....

:edit:

@ original question, well the year/model is in my sig ;) its a manual, chassis code begins with JMZE if thats any help? and its COMPLETELY standard in everyway, - totally unmolested 8)

1992 1.6L SOHC MX-3, Automatic

Redline on the gauge= 6250.

With the BP swap and the manual tranny swap though- I take her up to 7000 all the time now with no worries.

ur buddy probably had aftermarket indiglos.l

ALL indiglos say 6500 as redline. I Think they molded htem after a B6ZE model RS which is why.

MY KLZE can redline at whatever I want it to. I've gone about 8400rpm in the past, but that was b/c i'm a retard

my 95 RS B6de redlines at 6500. it seems to me that the US spec GS redlined at 6500 as well, at least thats what the RPM gauge redlined at in the GS i saw at the wrecker.

I'm with Gro that I have seen 8k before, but I don't think I should have done that...
Back when I did my ZE swap Lazzie wasn't selling ECUs yet so I used a reprogrammed Cork Sport and they didn't put the red line back in the ECU...

If I'm correct, the power peak on the MX-3 is around 6500, so if you change at 7000 your next gear will be closer to the "high power band".
