radiator ???'s

Post by MX3ze@7psi »

Would changing the stock radiator to a smaller one like on the civics make a difference in cooling?? Or can I get a smaller one but also wider work? Thanks! My turbo kit is almost finish. :D

A smaller one with upgraded Fans like Spals would work just as good as the stock.

Or you could go smaller and all aluminum with more cores. Not sure how many cores a stock MX-3 radiator has, but getting a radiator with a 2nd or 3rd core will also improve cooling but will make the radiator a bit thicker front to back but would decrease the over all height & width dimensions.

If turboing a ZE you'l need the thickness to be as thin as possible so that a longer taller radiator is going to be the best bet. You'll have issues getting the front exhaust manifold to fit between the radiator if you get a thicker one. The stock one is close already. If you look a BBYBlue's set-up you'll see that he moved the fans to the front as pushers to gain some much needed room. I'd go with a performance aluminum one with upgraded fans set as pushers. Use as close to stock size as possible. The better your cooling the longer your motor and turbo will last.
Also if getting a front mount be sure to leave some room for air to get to the radiator. I know most people want a huge intercooler so that they look cool, but you'll get more ponies if the engine can stay cool, and that won't happen if you stuff a huge front mount in front and the radiator doesn't get any air.
