You can't tell from the serial. Pull the spark plugs and shine a light in the hole. If the piston tops are flat and not stepped, it's a KLZE.

serial ID's the block...i don't believe it is possible to ID a KLZE vs. KLDE using those numbers

Aer there any other ways to check the engine to make sure that it is a klze motor other then the head code.

Can u tell from the port shape

Yep, squared off intake ports are a ZE. But then again those ports would be on a KL31 head. As far as I know, all the KL series blocks are the same. It's the pistons, heads, cams, intake manifold and some other stuff that are different. But the block itself is the same.

IT should have the squared intake runners, plus check the head codes, look in between the intake runners below the valve cover on the front bank <technically the left bank> it should say KL31 1A1 or KL31 101, and yea checking the pistons is a good way as well.

COMPRESSION TEST IT...... I thought mine was a regular millenia engine but than my compression test showed around 210 psi dry on all cylinders and I have KL-101 heads. But my engine is insane so go figure.
