How much ATF is needed?

Post by Chiggles »

Okay, so before I go install my cooler, I'm gonna take the advice a few of you have mentioned which is to change the fluid and filter as well. But how much fluid am I gonna need? I know a lot of the fluid will still be in the torque converter even if I drop the pan, but that's ok cuz I'll just change the fluid again in a few months before the winter starts up again and hope that the old fluid will pass through enough to get to the pan the next time. But how much fluid am I gonna need to top it off the during the first change and what's the total capacity that I'm gonna need counting what's in the pan, in the converter, and in the cooler????

Your cooler and lines wont take that much, maybe 1/3-1/2 quart or so depending on the size of the cooler.

When you drop the pan you will get 5-6 quarts or so, I cant remember exactly how much. Use a pan that will hold about 8, then drain it into plastic gallon milk jugs, 2 liter bottles, whatever you have that you know what the capacity is so you can measure it and replace the like amount.
