Performance upgrades...

Post by Awhe »

I have a 1.6 L 4 cyl automatic and am looking to do something to the motor to get a little more out of it... is there really anything besides swapping the motor?

There are literally a thousand things you could do...

Port the head
Polish the head
Port match the exhaust manifold
Bigger cams (from a Miata)
Bigger throttle body
Bore the throttle body or replace with a larger one
Higher compression ratio pistons
Lighter flywheel
Underdrive pulleys

...just off the top of my head.

Search the BB and you will find millions of things. Guys are getting 150+ HP normally asperated all over the place.

There are no modifications as far as I know but it is not a straight swap. The drive for the distributor is diffeerent on the miata so the intake and exhaust cams get switched and I think there is some creative timing to do. Do a search for "miata cams" and you'll find many threads regarding this upgrade.
