Kouki Style Taillights, Anyone?

Post by Sam Baker »

so my stock lights were too.. stock. :? and my altezzas were too.. rice. so what do a lotta people do to get different taillights without overdoing it? they go JDM.. 240s and RX7s got "kouki" taillights, so why not us? this is what i came up with:

man nice thinkin! .... seems like you would just unseal the lenses from the altezza 's and stock lenses. the slap the stock lenses on the altezza housings. it would be a heating technique like the headlight projects. i would be really interested on something like this! :D

yep yep thats what i did  my only issue is with the reflective ring on the altezza, and the reflective square on the stock lens. they kinda clash, but im not sure what to do about that. i'll take pix of the reflection at night to see what it looks like.

I kinda like these.. they are subtle.. I dont care for the Altezza's at all.. though the black look better than the clear IMO.. Nice work.

Kinda figured there were some illumination handi-work going's on in the Baker garage. Ya , I see what you mean about the red reflective ring arond the reverse lense. Since it looks like you're using the chrome altezza's behing the stock lense, why not try the highly reflective, aluminum type ducting tape I was telling you about in the other thread. By putting that tape over just the reflective ring and trimming the excess, the rings shape may end up blending better into the altezza's chrome back ground. You'll still be able to retain the intended circular light pattern from the reverse and maintain the project's integrity. BTW, having said all that, you've pulled off a very nice mod conception and execution. Great idea!!, nice work!!
:driver: :2thumbsup: :driver:

PS Any lambo updates?

haha thanks all..

Taras, yea i'm seriously thinkin bout that :P the bulbs look ok but with solid circles (like the FD RX7's) it would look so damn pimp!

and Jschrauwen, the rings on the altezza are easy to see if you drive up on them with your headlights. it reflects these really sweet looking rings (much like on the older miatas) in the middle.. but now my reflective part is a block with a half circle on top. doesnt look too good.. so i'm either gonna take out the ring, or modify the stock lens block area so that it's clear instead of reflective. but i think it'd be easier to just take out the ring LOL

o yea.. and the lambo's still havnt come. i'll keep u posted as i get more emails from shea tho

Ya really!!!, How's a guy going to be able to copy (oops) your projector project unless we see more pics and accompanying descriptive scenario's. I like how they're progressing though. Can't seem to find me a source for those after-market clear headlight covers. How available are they out your way?
