BP from a Ford or Mazda?

Post by Domnknpimp »

Hi. I know that they're basically the same engine, and will both work the same blah blah blah.... but there is a lot of confusing info, (i have searched, and it made it worse). The question I have is 1- If i use the BP from a Ford, will the pasenger side engine mount from my car work, or will I have to change it and use one off of an Escort? 2- I know both engines share the same design, but I also know one is made in the USA and the other is made in japan.... Is there any difference in quality? Is one built better than the other? I'd rather use the Mazda engine because I can pop my hood and not have a big FORD sign on my little Mazda, but besides that is there really a difference? Thanks a lot

one of the faqs over on clubprotege has the differences.. like cast cank vs forged, bearing caps vs. no bearing caps, yadada.

Regardless of whether the Mazda guys like it or not, it will work more than fine for most guys. I will be running with a big fat FORD symbol under the hood with a T3/T4 and I will be happy doing so. I know guys with over 300,000kms on their Escorts with BPs, and some Escort guys have pulled some really good hp numbers... I wouldn't be worried about hte differences mentioned unless you are going to ridiculous horsepower levels.

They are basically the SAME motor with minor differences that the normal entusiast wont even care about.

The biggest visual difference would be the fuel rails are different on the Ford BP then the Mazda BP. They use some wired metal lines wiith a funny inline connector or something strange. All of your other stuff will still bolt up to the Escort BP just like the Protege would-- except you can either change the Fuel rail to a Mazda one or figure some other way for it to work.

Your mounts will bolt up just fine as well.
