Idle problems and clutch problems

Post by cleamon78 »

#1 - When I'm in nuetral and hit the gas, my rpm climbs up normally but then falls below 200-300. It comes close but does not stall.

#2 - The car is very jumpy in first gear and I almost have to ride the clutch in order not to have a jerky transistion into second. All other gears change fine. I dont know if this means its a bad clutch, but the previous owner said it was changed in November 03 and I have owned the car since Feburary 04.

Both problems just started a little over a month ago. I have been driving as infrequently as possible until funds can be had.

I think it may be oxygen sensors..also isnt it normal for the rpms to go down almost to zero when u rev up? because mine has alwayts done that. If your oxygen sensors are fouled or going..its like mine...it backfires when cold and also when cold its slow in 1st and second gear. When its warm it runs perfect. Also try giving your car a good run to burn off all those carbon build ups (if your engine is in good standing)

No, it isn't at all normal.
Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)

My first guess would be the plastic acordian intake has a crack.
There kinda hard to see but check real good. I'm refering to the
piece of intake just before the throttle body.

Yes, that part is replaced. I bought the prelude type kit and cut to fit.

ya, sounds like a vaccuum leak. I had a leak when my EGR blockoff plate somehow fell off and my car would only barely run if I was flooring the pedal, otherwise it'd stall :(

to be honest its been so long I don't even have the links to the website that I purchased it from any more. With a little searching you could find some write ups on it that give you a good idea of were and how to cut it.

I paid about $40 shipped, you will need a couple of rubber couplers. I
bought mine at home depot, there big, black and ugly but they get the job done. You can also get them online but they cost a little more. Last time I was in advanced auto they had the prelude cold air intake for about what I paid.

You could always just replace the stock plastic part, I've read that there about $60 dollars new from the dealer. Or you could try and find a used one.

I think my problem is one of the EGR vacuum solenoids... I have not been able to find that part anywhere..not even at major autoparts stores! Its the one thats next to the intake..thje solenoid in bottom.

if your intake does have a leak, you can temporarily fix it by wrapping it with duct tape until you get your new intake. BTW - did you test it to see if it was leaking?

No, I havent tested it for leaks. Should I test both the top and bottom or what?
