opinions on this setup

Post by phillyMX3mayn »

Ive seen pictures of cars with suspension technique springs w/ zx2 struts and 17" rims and they still dont look that low. I want maybe 2 fingers tops between the tire and the fender but im having trouble finding a setup ill like.
zx2 tokico struts with GC coilovers? what do you think of this setup?

its what i have....low as crap. At the highest setting, the rear end is about 1.5" lower. The front can adjust from .5" lower to over 3" lower.

but watch out...the ride is very firm with this setup. Its nice & solid, good for autocrossing.

I recently removed my GC/ZX2 setup in favor of my Eibach spring/ZX2 strut setup which rides a little more like OEM but still stiff. I live in a mountain town which gets snow every other day and I needed the ground-clearance so I swapped the suspension out.

BTW i'm selling the gc/zx2 setup if anyone cares on here. even includes strutmounts, perches & strut bearings already installed.

Good lord...I got 6 PM's about the suspension while I was gone for 2 hours.

Answers:

Installed them in Oct or Nov of 03 so they are about 14 months old. About 15k miles of use Bought brand new. Coilovers cost me $340 new (via a gropubuy...good luck finding them for that price anywhere). Struts ran me 190 something shipped, the thrust bearings were $18 each. I bought the spring perches & spare strutmounts from the junkyard for about $60 or so..they were from a 95 ford escort w/like 80k miles. I basically wanted ones with the lowest wear & tear /miles.

I got rid of them b/c of the adjustability range. Basically, the front is adjustable from .5" lower than stock at its highest setting to over 3" Lower, i honestly don't know how low..probably 3.5-4.5" lower. I had it adjusted at about 2". The rear is about 1.5" lower at the HIGHEST setting which is why i'm selling these (my titanium muffler is already scratched up) and can be adjusted to god knows how low. Probably until the car rests on its azz.

They ride firm as crap. Your GF will kick your azz if you put these on your car. The car barely transfers weight side-to-side & backwards when you accel and corner (which is great for handling). GOod thing the mx3's come with lateral support b/c you'd fly your a-- off your seat if you corner w/these on bench seats or something.

The assemblies include EVERYTHING. You won't have to buy anything. They have used strut mounts both front and rear. the front strut has the top perch & the thrust/strut bearings already installed & bored out. You basically would just need to unbolt your old stuff and shove these in. Won't need spring compressors as these coilover springs are SHORT and the strut shaft actually is way longer than teh coilovers themselves. One thing you might want is some dust covers. The ones i had on there were some generic peices of crap and I ripped them off when I removed the struts b/c of how ripped up they were.

As for the asking price...I was gonna ask $400 shipped for them but whoever bids the highest gets em. I already got 2 ppl interested in for the 400 but a higher bid gets priority. I spent over 600 on this setup only a year ago just fyi.
