Hawk HPS/HP Plus, EBC Green/Red Stuff or Ferodo Premier?

I have read many good things about Hawk brake pads. The problem is that I can't get them in Sweden. I have found some other brands than I can get in Sweden, but I'm not sure if they are as good as Hawk pads.

I want to have good pads for daily driving and when I drive at the track (3-4 days per year). I will use them together with Brembo plain rotors.

Which one should I buy?

Hawk HPS
Hawk HP Plus
EBC Green Stuff
EBC Red Stuff
Ferodo Premier

Money isn't the big problem, and I'm not afraid of ordering them from USA.

Greenstuff is not much better than stock pads imho.
I`ve used them for 3 years now and I`m about to get something else.

I`m thinking of the same pads Luc St. Pierre uses on his Mx3. for Auto-X.

Porterfield R4`s.

also. good discs is also important.

I do around five track meets each year, and I'm not sure whether to get HPS or HP Plus?

porterfields are the best but they are hard to get & 100+ per set

hawks are still damn good and are easier to find..+ about 1/2 the price of porterfields.

all of the other choices suck

I will go for Hawk, but can't decide to go for HPS or HP Plus.

i already forgot which hawks are the cheaper and which are more expensive

get the cheaper of the 2

the more expensive ones (i think the plus's) are going to eat ur rotors super fast + they require heat cycling before they can fully function

their regular semi-metallic race pads are better for the street. They do accelerate wear on ur rotors but the performance they give is awesome, even in wet/dry/snow conditions

linkage to these rear pads?

the only "perforamnce" ones i could find were PBR/Axxis metalmasters which are OK, not that great for stopping power

i want something decenter for the rear but couldn't find JACK for this car

Premier is only replacement pads, but alot better than stock pads. They used Premier pads on JTCC cars (Volvo S40, 1150kg, 185hp) here in Sweden with good results. So I trust them. I have used Premier both front and rear this season. They worked very well, but I wanna try Hawk to see if they are better than the Premier ones. I payed $70 for both front and rear axle sets.

They have other pads with the name DS2500 that should be a bit better than Premier, but none for the MX-3.

I still use and have used Ferodo for the last 16 years with my CD Brembo rotors and Brembo calipers on my Ducati. It was and may still very well be the best combo going in the hot or cold, wet or dry. Excellent wear rate, doesn't overheat the rotors and doesn't require to be "heated up" in order to be completely effective. Didn't know Ferodo made a pad for the rear calipers so I settled with PBR/Axxis Metalmasters which haven't been installed yet. Macen if you have the Ferodo part number handy, I'll see if I can track down a set. Did you source them locally or from the US? Thanks,

I got them from a store here in Sweden. They are easy to get here, and very cheap. $70 for both front and rear is very cheap.
Yeah, I like them too. They never overheated on any of my five track meets this year.

The part number is:
FDB715-AP (front)
FDB482-AP (rear)

One thing I found that was abit odd with the front set was that they didn't cover the whole front disc area. My friend that has a Protege also bought Premier pads, and his covered the whole disc. Calipers and discs are the same on the Protege and the MX-3. So if you want for the front, you should get the ones for the Protege. I can get the part number if you want.

I would definitely prefer a pad with a bigger swept area for sure. I still have to install (this winter) my new Magnum CD, CAD plated rotors, rebuilt calipers, SS brake lines front and rear. I've also got a set of Hawk HPS pads for the front. So your saying that the swept area coverage of the front MX3 Ferodo Premier's is less than the Premier's used on the Protege? Now comes an interesting question. Would the swept area coverage of the the Ferodo Premier's front brake pads for a Protege cover more disc area (be larger) than the MX3 allocated Hawk HPS or will it be the same? If you're still planning on getting the HPS Hawk's perhaps you may be able to compare them to your friends Protege Premier pads? If that's even at all possible? I wonder if the part numbers for the HPS pads for the MX3 is the same as the part numbers for the Protege? I think Gro is a lot more up to speed on the HPS pads and probably could solve this since he's also a proud Protege owner too. I have a few months left before I'll be doing the update/conversion. This is "good to know" info Macen .... thanks!!

I will mail to Tirerack and ask them if they know if the part number for the MX-3 and the Protege is the same.
BTW, my friend's Protege is a 1997 with the 1.8L DOHC engine (115hp).
I hope Gro can tell us how much of the disc are the HPS uses. The Premiere for the Protege uses the whole area. About 1cm (~½ inch) more than my Premiere pads (look at the picture I posted above).
