Hey guys,
I've seen some reports on the automatic tranny in the MX-3 not being the best. Is this a bias towards manual trannies or are there significant deficiencies in the auto models? What I was looking for was a 94-96 GS. Any particular quirks within that range? Thanks for any help guys.

Don't do it! NOO!!! I have a 92 GS Auto with 110K miles on it. Had to have entire tranny rebuilt for $1,500. Then the clutch blew twice after that. THis is in the past year.

The trannys are bad, I've owned my car for over 4 years now and I've had to rebuilt the tranny a couple times.
I have been lucky lately though my current auto tranny has lasted just over 2 years now.

If you've had ur tranny repaired since 6/2000 you've got a stronger gearbox. That could be why its lasted longer.

Mazda replaced the old gear box part no. with a beefed up remake that month i believe. I read it on the Probe/626/mx6/mx3 FAQ that talks about fluid types and such. Cant remember the link offhand.

Bahhhh!
I had mine rebuild few times since that date and it is dead again....
The mx-3 tranny was originally designed for lot smaller engine.
I blew it up more then i care to admit to.
Each rebuild is like $2,000AU with performance parts but unfortunately the clutches are too small to hold even the power of the 1.8
hate to think how long it would last under the ZE power.
Regards,
LADDIE

If it fits!!!
I am yet to measure one up...
I had access to the manual one but missed my chance....
But if it fits as i was led to believe it will be a mod number one for all ATX owners.
Waitingly,
LADDIE

I've been told it doesn't fit, i guess that's probably why they didn't use it in the first place? But of course anything is possible..., if you've got the dosh $$$$!

Well, my tranny just died for the 3rd time in 3 years! I am sick, and tired of the problem, so I am getting rid of the car.
Edit: Fixed the tranny.. Gonna give it one last try.. cost me $1,300 US this time including a new right axle boot, and a new left axle (the needed to be done. 1,300 i guess isn't to bad.. it was the pump this time, and a rebuild. He didn't charge labor.
[ March 13, 2003: Message edited by: Coolaid776 ]
