SCORED at the junkyard this weekend!!!

Post by Gro Harlem »

Holy crizap!! I went to the junkyard for the first time in about 6 weeks Saturday, in search of a rear taillight harness b/c mine causes a short & some interior screws & fasteners.

Along my scan of the yard...i see this white millenia..I think to myself "sweet! i can get the curved neck manifold" but no...it was a Millenia S upon a close look! Supercharger was gone along with the front intake manifold. I decided to take a peek under the front valve cover to confirm my suspicions.

Indeed!! the KJ has SOLID LIFTERS. These will swap straight into any K-series engine, buying the proper shims is up to you. I couldn't get the rear valve cover off b/c there was SO MUCH CRAP (intake manifold, metal fuel lines & solenoids & the intercooler assembly) in the way. So I only got 12:

Once I was done pulling those (removing K-series camshafts is a B!!CH) I noticed the fuel rails were still there...i almost nutted myself. For those who don't know....stock K8 injectors are 180cc, stock KLDE and KLZE injectors are 220cc and the only upgrade is to get Millenia S injectors which are 280cc. These are the only injectors that fit the strange fuel rails our cars use. So I yanked all 6 of the injectors & the KJ01 FPR from the rails:

I went home with a few other parts including my taillight harness & figured i'd come back Sunday to get the other 12 lifters & the ECU from that Millenia.

So its Sunday...I go back...try my best to remove the crap in the way of the valve cover & couldn't...i figured I can always buy 12 lifters, its not a big deal, or maybe i'll get lucky and find another car with solid lifters to jack from the front cylinder head. I also noticed the ecu was already removed, so I was kinda disappointed.

BUT!! On my way out, I surveyed the Ford section for some Fesitvas for some minor parts for my buddies festiva (he bought my old one) and WTF!! I saw a Bright yellow ZX2 SR!!!

For those who don't know, the ford zx2 is built on the same mazda unibody as the MX3 and Protege/323, along with the 91+ escorts/tracers. The SR is a special edition made from 97-99 (i think) has a B&M short shifter, Iceman intake, borla exhaust, special gauge trim, special seats & interior fabric & limited edition colors & badging. it also has Tokico struts w/eibbach lowering springs & metal thrust bearings.

The shifter & intake were gone, but I noticed no one bothered removing the struts!! I Ganked all 4 of them w/ease. They are in good shape w/no rust & mint dust boots & bumpstops and strutmounts. There are a direct bolt in for all mx3's:

Damned! What was wrong with the rear head? And you plan on selling those injectors? I know the ProbeTalk guys pay some crazy amounts for those things. Probably didn't pay nearly as much as you could sell them for. What year was it for the solid lifters?

hummmm.... last time I went to the junk yard I got my turbo (56,000 miles on the Shelby Z I pulled it off of, and paid only $16.50) 6 new injectors off PGT (DE with low miles, only $10) multiple turbo cuplings and a boost gauge (for testing purpouses) form variuos autos at $.50 each. 626 fuel pump (for $6.50). I only went their for a $50 4X4 blazer tranny and spent close to $100 in other stuff!

What I left behind, was a HUGE FMIC, more good injectors, another low mileage mitsubishi TE04H Turbo and other misc. treasures cuz I ran out of cash.I'm waiting for them to get a PGT or MX6 with a complete Low-milage V6 engine, they only want $140 for the complete assymbly!

just the lifters themselves sell for about $20 each new from mazda. you still have to buy the shims for your specfic application. i'm not sure of the price, but they are probably 8-13 dollars each.
