Replacing gearbox oil - just checking some things

Post by psneddon »

Hi,

I have a UK MX-3 1997 V6. I have had the car for a few months now and notice that the gear selection is not as smooth as in the 323F I drive. There is also a soft of grinding/cranking noice when I accelerate through 20mph in 2nd gear (its only heard when the window is down and there is a wall or something to reflect the sounds).

So I'm thinking of changing the gearbox oil for Redline MT90 but I have a few questions.

1) I don't have a torue wrench or any stands for the car. Is it *possible* to change it with out these items? Or should I just take it to the garage?

2) From what I've read I should replace the washer on the drain plug. What size is this washer, can I just get a washer the same size and use that?

I'm fairly new to cars and I would like to do some of the mantainance stuff myself.

Thats in advance for any advice :)

I just use the factory jack out of the trunk and a cheap socket set. I don't think I've got any gaskets on mine.
