Best Suspension Choice?

Post by Spinkx79 »

I have a 96 MX-3 with 225,000km I am swapping a 2.5L kl engine out of a MX-6 or 626 as soon as i can find one (ODBII)

While i an doing that i wanna change the suspension, its getting pretty rough. I changed the CV joints last year and they are shot already. Im thinkin that the strut towers are bent? Anyways I wanna put in new struts, springs, axels, bushings and motor mounts.

I am not sure what to buy....Any reccomendations?

I do not want my car slammed, a small drop maybe but not lookin to feel everything on the road.

Thanks in advance

Everyone is going to tell you something different based on their experiences. So much of it has to do with exactly what you're looking for...

I have the Eibach Pro Kit springs paired with the Escort ZX2 struts on 17"s. I am absolutely in love with this combination. Not quite as low or stiff as the H&R springs that my friends have on their MXes, but I think I perfer it that way. The car feels like its on rails and feels amazingly compliant on straight roads, even if they're a little roughened up. The lowering aspect makes the car look a ton better, but it is not as prominient as the H&Rs or coilovers set low. Hope you find what you're looking for. Do a search and you'll find tons of pics of different setups and opinions...

I have H&R Sport Springs w/Tokico blue struts. Just put em in and love em. The Tokico blues do have a rep for not holding up over the long haul especially w/very agressive driving and rough roads. I'm only moderately agressive thru the twisties though so will hafta see how they hold up. If any of em start leaking, I would replace with Koni adjustable inserts I think. Those reportedly hold up better to rough driving/roads and are rebuildable or so I'm told. Time'll tell... it always does... my .02.

If money is not a problem i'd say for for some Ground control coilovers with nylon shims from luc st pierre aka SRD performance, paired with some koni strut cartriges or some mazdaspeed adjustable struts. This way you can tailor your ride height and firmness to your liking.

If moneys no concern, I`d get AST Performance true coilovers (I`m probably getting these next spring).
Second choice would be Koni & Ground Controls (350/250 springrate), and 3rd choice, Koni`s + H&R (wich I`m running now, and it works great).
Oh, and the Koni`s are rebuildable, none of the others (except the coilovers from AST) can be rebuilt.
