How do i tell if struts are bad?

How can you tell if struts are bad? If you press them in with you're hand and they don't come out, are they bad?

It's hard to tell by hand, unless something silly like that happens. Because remember that struts only control spring movement, so just because you can compress them with your hand means nothing. It's the SPEED at which you can compress them that's key, and thats impossible to test without testing equipment.

so my brand new zx2 s/r struts that I have sitting beside me I shouldn't be able to compress by hand?? Because I most certainly can!
