Drop Zone coilovers?
I am thinking about purchasing a set of dropzone coilovers. I was wondering if anyone has installed them and how stiff they ride. Do they just swap right in where the springs are now? What kind of shocks should i use with them that will not wear out quickly due to the dampening rate? For the cost of the dropzone coilovers and ____ shocks, should i consider ground control instead?(they are kind of pricy)

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
Havent tried them myself but ive heard nothing but bad reviews on dropzone. This mx6 guy from around here said he tried dropzone and regrets it. He said they are soo stiff and bumpy you will go nuts.

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
If you drop your Mx-3 more than 1.5 inches, it's going to be a stiff ride no matter struts you use; it's inevitable.<p>"What kind of shocks should i use with them that will not wear out quickly due to the dampening rate?"
ANSWER: This depends on many factors...
- V6 or 4cyl?
- Do you have subs/amps/etc. adding extra weight?
- How much of a drop did you set the coilovers too?<p>TOKICO Premium performance Struts and KYB GR2's will be fine for a 0 -> 1.5 inch drop (operating these at 1.5 inches is pushing it though). <p>MAZDASPEED Adjustable Struts and ZX2 Tokico struts perform well at a 1.5 - 2.00 inch drop and won't put a strain on em'.<p>Stay away from KYB GR2's and the tokico premimum performance struts that are designed for the Mx-3 because they will not last long if you drop your car more than 1 inch.<p>IMHO, i would go for Mazdaspeed adjustable struts if money is not an issue. However, since money is an issue with most of us (like myself)...i suggest going with ZX2 tokico struts.

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
I have a V6 and I'm looking to drop the rear maybe 2 to 3 inches. The front i want it just enough so the wheels don't hit the fenders. I have a set of 2 10" subs and an amp in the trunk but no spare tire. Will this extra weight also wear the shocks out quicker?

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
Yes. Any extra weight you have in and/or on the car will put more strain on any strut.<p>[ February 13, 2003: Message edited by: zytariuk ]</p>

Woops, I missed my cue.
Install was fairly easy. The ride, to me is excellent. Stiff, but fun.
Steve, that info you provided is great. Keep it up.

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
mx3man83, if you drop any car over ~1.75 inches...it's going to be a very rough ride. My friend has his 240sx literally 1 inch off the ground and you wouldn't believe how insanely bumpy the ride is.

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
Thats why you get ground control coil overs so your spring rate isnt through the roof...so your ride isnt AS bumpy...but that would be too easy.....sure it cost more but it would definitely be worth it..Why dont we get protegeSTS to post on this one...he seems to know every spring rate and size for every car in the world!!!

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
It is my opinion that ALL of the ebay crap is just that. If you want decently priced coilovers, get Ground Controls, and depending on what you want, we can discuss spring rates then.

lol yah, i know :\. To dumb it up, i was basically saying that your statement "Thats why you get ground control coil overs so your spring rate isn’t through the roof..." is incorrect.

Re: Drop Zone coilovers?
Well i am leaning towards suspension technique or Eibach springs, and probably some ZX2 struts. Is there a "better" strut than the ZX2 for these springs? What would you estimate install time for something like this. (i have access to a lift and air tools)
