pics of escort coilovers
Just got them like 30 mins ago and took some pics. There are stickers on them that hare the numbers 450 and 350, which im guessing are the spring rates, heavier up front to compinsate for the engine. Im no autoxer or anyhting so im sure I couldnt tell bad spring rates from good ones.
anyways heres the pic I snapped, they are alot smaller than I thought they were gonna be, but its my first set of coilovers hehe.

I still need new struts first, so after xmas ill order some zx2's then ill install them and do pics and a write up, should be fairly simple cause i have two friends helping me.
I got my oil changed today and 3 of my brakes are constantly sticking, they say it will be 200$
to fix, and then I have a cracked head gasket which ive know about for a long while. I just keep putting coolant in it and it runs fine, however im guessing this has to do with the low idle we all have. If you have to refill with coolant often, then you have a cracked gasket and the pressure goes away when you stop and it almost stalls..so now its drive till engine dies, then get a swap or somthin ..this is alot longer than i Planned os enjoy the pic and wish me luck and any comments are welcome..
-Ryan
[ December 17, 2002: Message edited by: Ryencool ]

Re: pics of escort coilovers
can you measure how long each of the springs is? That'd be useful. To me, the 450s look awfully short. Suspension travel issues could become a reality.
Also, those rates will be stiff. Good luck.

Re: pics of escort coilovers
the 450's are 6inches, and the 350's are 7 inches. Like I said im not a suspension guro so stiff is fine with me, rather than bouncing around all the time. Overall the whole item is smaller than I thought it would be. as far as suspension travle issues what do you mean? the shock not be able toextend as far as possible?

Re: pics of escort coilovers
limited travel means that with extreme movements of the suspension, ie bumps, potholes...etc, its going to bottom out.

Alright, personally I dont know if that will be a problem or not, only time and a run in with a pothole will tell heh..
Anyways im goin to do the install in 2-3 weeks. What else should I need? if im goin to replace my struts and put coilovers on what else should i replace as far as rusty bolts etc??? thanks guys, and protege, you da man most of the time

Re: pics of escort coilovers
Id pickup a set of camber bolts, and do the tie rod ends at the same time.

you can get the tie rods at any parts store. They are not universal.

Re: pics of escort coilovers
Sorry for the confusion Ryan but i was very unhappy about buying springs i couldn't use. After researching and cross refrencing part numbers for coilovers and (for example escort/mx-3/protege ground controls are the same) i thought the same might apply to the escort springs but they didn't even come close to fitting. But the coilovers should fit like a glove. But its strange that the protege springs will fit though...
[ December 23, 2002: Message edited by: Aaron MacDougall ]

you got the wrong thing. They are the same. There are a number of protege guys with MX-3 springs, INCLUDING some EGT guys.
