good setup? suggestions please!

Post by DJGypsy »

i think i've figured out what i'm gonna go with my suspension. i wanna lower it a little bit, but i still want a good ride. my reasons for lowering are more for performance, but i still wanna drop about 1.5", lowering less than an inch seems pointless to me. I WILL GO 1.5". i'm thinking about going with Eibach Pro Kit springs (1.3"front, 1.5"rear)(close enough), and Tokico Performance struts. will i need camber plates for a 1.5" drop? i'm getting mixed signals about camber plates from previous posts. opinions please! if you guys could, please give me part #s, and other statistics, for example, like how far the springs drop, if you suggest diff springs from the aforementioned Eibach Pro Kit.
Hey Protege STS! i wanna hear what u gotta say on this one! u helped me before, please help again! do you think this is a good set up? what do you think about the camber plate stuff for a 1.5" drop?
THANKS GUYS AND GALS! :D

I have the Eibach pro kit and its 1.2" in the front and 1" in the back. The ride is not harsh and handling is definitly improved. For a 1.5" drop, H&R springs would be the choice for you.
For struts, the Tokico's are mediocore, the KYB GR-2's I would avoid unless you get the Mazdaspeeds which are adjustable.
There have been some posts about Ford ZX-2 struts which were recommended on more than one occasion. These are cheaper and offer more damping than the Tokico's.
You don't need a camber plate kit for a 1.5" drop, however you should align it after the spring install. My camber was at -1.1 degrees at all 4 corners, give or take a tenth or so after the spring install. The H&R's camber should be similar to mine.

thanks! i'll go with the H&Rs...anybody else got any suggestions? tell me more about these ZX2 struts...tokico makes them, correct? what makes them so good for the mx3? do they have more damping power? do they require modification to fit an MX3? how well do these struts work with the aforementioned H&R springs? thanx guys!
[ September 12, 2002: Message edited by: DJGypsy ]

I've got H&R springs and I'm also using KYB GR-2 struts,I've heard people saying they've had problems with these struts,I've got about 10k miles on mine and they are still as good as the day I put them on.
Time will tell I guess.
As for the springs, they are pretty stiff feeling, but worth it,they close the fender gap nicely and handle well.

You can do a search for the zx2, there's a lot of info. find the link to the how to web site, it's all there (sorry I'm to lazy to link it).
tk1138
There's not really anything I want to say over and over.
