B6T stock boost level

Post by curtklze »

This should be easy for you guys :)

What are the waste gate actuators set at on a stock B6-T turbo? 4 PSI?

I know that most Factory turbo systems have a low actuator boost level and the computer will very the ammount of boost that it sees to keep the boost above its preset limit.

EG actuator is set to be fully open at 5 PSI, but a solinoid will cycle so that the turbo will produce 8-10 PSI.

I want to know the ACTUAL pressure that the ACTUATOR is set at from the factory on a stock B6-T turbo.

Thanks for your help.

when i drove the xr2 that my motor came out of it was hitting like 7-8psi.

the vac. line on the disty wasn't hooked up but i doubt that had anything to do with the boost levels.

not saying you're wrong, but i've never heard of a factory boost controller. just doesn't make sense to do it. it would be easier to just have the spring inside the internal wastegate set at the disired level for stock boost.

again, i could be the one that's wrong, it has happened one other time. :D

Can any one help me, I need to know the true un-regulated pressure of the actuator(how much pressure will it take to open all the way)

The Rx-7 turbo model isn't the same as the 323 turbo model.

There isn't a restrictor pill.. So it is directly to the Wastegate Actuator, and there is no exit from our WasteGate..

Mazda do not use Atmospheric turbos setups for the 323. So, the 323 doesn't have a Blow Off Valve, but a By-Pass-Valve.

A restrictor Pill is like a Boost controler..

Honestly though, I never work on a running 323 Turbo. Only parts. But by the parts I work with, the turbo got the wastegate directly on the turbo.

I'm getting another turbo soon. I saw pics of it, and, is was a little off from what I have worked with.. So I'm buying it out of curiosity..

The mx6 turbo 2.2L has a solinoid controling the boost that the waste gate actuator sees. simmilar to the RX-7, does the 323 GTX turbo have a solinoid in the line going to the wastegate actuator?

Can anyone use a mighty vac pump with a pressuer gauge and test the actuall pressure it takes to open the wastegate?

HELP ME :)

The GTR and GTX(1.8) both have a boost control solenoid, but its removed from most motors before they are sold because its a desireable item to the 323 boys. The 323 motors have 2 boost settings, one for under 3500rpm, and one for over. If anyone wants proof I could probaly dig up my wiring diagrams for the GTX. Sorry curt.... no vac pump or b6t :(

Boost is set at 7.5psi, no boost controller. If you want exact psi settings I can look in my manual when I get home.

As per my '88 GTX Factory Shop Manual:

Boost Pressure (MAX) =
55-59 kPa
.56-.60 Kg/(cm^2)
8.0-8.6 PSI

If you need other details Curt, let me know. I have the manual for the '88 3233 (all models) and parts books for both '86 and '88 323's (all models).

can you check the shop manual for the procedure on testing the waste gate actuator, or the theory and opperation section and see if it has a description on how the waste gate works and at what pressures. Im almost certian there is some form of control that limits the actuator seeing boost, other wise the boost pressuer would start to open the waste gate at 4-5 psi(its just a spring remember) and it would be fully open at 8-9 psi so you wouldnt be getting full boost for quite a while, if there is some form of controler(like most have) then it wont let the actuator see boost untill 8 psi then the waste gate will activate quicker.

The wastegate is spring operated like most turbochargers are if that is what you mean. I will see what I can dig up tomorrow though.
