Just like a t25 or a ct20 turbo would never work on a 1993 5.0 Mustang. I'd love to see you get the new Dodge Neon SRT-4 turbo to work on ANY car besides the SRT-4. It's built into the manifold. So no, not all turbo's will work with all cars. A generic answer is never the best answer.
Yes the T3 will work fine on the 1.8L K8 engine. Depending on your HP goal, an engine swap may be a little more of a price concious decisions as well as a more reliable choice.

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
You can get a t88 to work on a Geo Metro!!!
Like if you used a 150HP shot of wet nitrouse. Just better have the motor & tranny built like a TANK from top to bottom first. But yeah....it'll work

P.S.
Don't EVEN think about driving it on the street like that cuz you'ld never make it through the car infront of you. LOL
Got any pics of that SRT manifold & turbo??? I could possibly cut away the manifold, then weld on some custom runners and machine a mounting plate to weld to the runners so it'll bolt up to what ever head your using. So if the turbo and manifold are made in one....what tha.....did they do for the upgrade kits they are selling???? I've gotta go check one out just out of curiosity!!!

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
t3 might be to big. Im using a t25 and see boost around 3500-4000rpms so the t3 will be higher in the rpms.

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
what piping are you asking about if you talking about the cold i have 2 going from the turbo to the intercoler and 2.5 from the intercoler to the engine( because the intercoler is 2.5 in and out so i just kept it the same after leving the intercoler). Why do you think you would get boost sooner? The talon gets boost around 3000rpms, its a 2l and its right at the manifold were we are a 1.8l and the turbo is mounted by the battery. So less displacement and more piping means more lag. But when it starts boosting its very fast.

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
a t3 will work fine on the engine. a suggestion would be to get some new headers off the v-6, do all the piping out of the car....hoist the car and then put the turbo on that way. currently working a probe with the kl-ze engine(from jasper though) and the process of doing the piping is working great. granted the fit test will be a little different. any who back to hte topic on hand. there will be turbo lag like mrs panky said due to the excess piping compared to the 4cyl engine. and yes you can get the srt-4 turbo to work on a car like who ever said it custom the manifold....and piping. and no your best option isnt a swap because a swap will take around 3 grand if not more to do and turboing will take less...just make sure you got a good low comp ratio............
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

A few sorces actually, one being Sport Compact Car Magazine.
And Car and Driver said this......

quote:
Something else that's unusual is the exhaust system. The exhaust manifold is integrated with the turbine housing for better flow, tidier packaging, and quicker catalytic light-off.

quote:
and no your best option isnt a swap because a swap will take around 3 grand if not more to do and turboing will take less...just make sure you got a good low comp ratio............

LOL, A swap will NOT run you more than a custom turbo setup. A custom turbo setup (for parts) is about $1500-$2000 if you want a reliable setup. Then you gotta pay to get it put in. Unless you're talkin about puttin it in yourself, then the swap would cost the price of parts. Um.....$1000-$1200 maybe.
[ May 13, 2003: Message edited by: VizualXTC ]

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
actually it would cost alot more considering you wanna do it the right way, you would upgrade your eternals pistons, rods, replace the fuel injectors, bigger fuel pump, that alone is about 1500 you havent even hit mandrel bent piping a custom manifold the cost of the turbo itself wastegate blow off valve other accessories so your looking about about 3 grand NOT including the labor and thats doing everything right

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
wouldnt it be a good idea before u acutally do the set up of a turbo to get the fuel pump, air/fuel computer, gauges, rising rate fuel regulator, extra injectors before u do the actuall turbo so u have less to worry about
jason

Re: garret t3 on 1.8L v6?
FORGET ABOUT ALL THAT DEBATING!!!!
FIRST answer me this one question:
Realistically....what is your HP goal?
The answer you give me is what you have to compare prices on. If you only want 300HP...personally I'd do a KL-ZE w/ a 100HP shot of wet nitrous on a progessive controller. It all depends on your final destination your wanting in your head, NOT what every one else wants! Things come into play like throttle response, dealing w/ lag on a turbo set up, is it gonna be mainly a drag car or are you wanting a good road coarse or rally car? These are the things you need to answer BEFORE you start buying the parts. That one question I asked you to answer is a REALLY good starting point! Thats where we need to start.

Like a NA KL03 compared to a K8 with a turbo. It would be a lot cheaper for the swap. There is no reason to upgrade the internals of the engine you swap in unless you are going for high torque numbers or planning on a future turbo setup. Like I said, I was comparing a basic KL03 or KLZE engine swap to a custom turbo on the K8.
Again, the swap is cheaper than a custom turbo. BUT if you turbo the car now, you will get used to turbo response and maintenance. Then you always have the option of swaping in a new engine. The KL03 and the KLZE will use the same turbo setup as the K8 up to a certain point. Then upgrading of the turbo setup will be necissary.
