fuel injectors for turbo

Post by mx3optidrive »

I know that the protege lx injectors and the 323gtx/gtr ones will fit the 1.6DOHC but I know where I can get injectors from an Escort GT or get the ones from a Cosworth RS and I was just wondering if either of these would work or which ones would be better for my turbo project with my 2nd generation RX-7 fuel pump. Any info would be appreciated.
Jeff

Escort GT are the same as Protege Lx.. Same engine..
Go 323 GTX 1.8l for better fuel delivery..
I'm looking into the Mx-6 I4 turbo too.. but I can't confirm those information.. they are rather similar.. I'll have a set to compare soon.. and are 330cc..

From what i've heard there are some instances in which JDM b6t injectors are high impedence which could be a benefit to you. I think, don't quote me, that John is running JDM BPT injectors in his B6ze?
I don't know how much this will be of use to you Jeff but have you looked into using the pro LX injectors but getting an additional injector controller to add on 2 more injectors perhaps?

Yup, K and B engine use High impendence..
So, Mitsubishi injector won't work, as they are low impendence.

Sorry, not all K and B engines use High impedance injectors. There are as many as 5 different colored injectors for the B6T. Ones from Japan are low impedance (mostly), ones over here are high. Pro LX injectors are high and you will be limited to 150whp. NA B6T injectors are 330cc, good for around 220whp. I would suggest 330cc at a minimum, but you should look at some 440cc or 550cc injectors from an FC.

Most of the Jspec engines produce slightly more power due to the low impedance injectors and correct fuel maps in the ecu. We get stuck with the wimpy versions here again.

I am only looking for around 200 whp, so what color injector would I need from the B6T to get the 330cc or is there another color that would give me more flow from the B6T. Also, if I did do the 5 injector, how hard is it to set up and tune? I am trying to get the best set-up with the least problems for troubleshooting if something goes wrong with the set-up. Thanks for the replys so far.
Jeff

Go with the 330cc injectors from one of the NA B6T motors. Use a Pro LX ecu, FC fuel pump and some sorta fuel controller (S-AFC or like component). This will allow for 200whp safely. I would suggest 440cc injectors if you go over 200whp at all (look into FC injectors).

Well, I got a set of 2nd gen RX-7 injectors and I was talking to the mechanic at Mazda and he thinks the DOHC 1.6 pistons and rods won't handle the boost (5-8psi). Did anyone that turboed their car have to do any internal work to their motor to run low boost? Or should I just get the forged rods and pistons?

18psi on B6T internals is what I had. Most M1 miata owners run 10-14psi on their FMI or FMII kits, even 7-12psi on their Greddy kits. Your mechanic doesn't understand that the B6 motor was never designed to be NA, it was always meant to be turbocharged from the factory.
