That is exactly what I have been saying for the last year. Get a BP shortblock and use a NB head from the '99+ miata. Not only are the ports of a better design (ie. angle) but you also get a better valvetrain. My B6T wasn't much better, I had to hog that out quite a bit to get a good increase in flow.

Yeah Dave, according to Mazda it offers better cylinder filling at low speeds and a higher velocity of incoming air. At higher airflow speeds, it's just a big restriction. It offers somewhat more torque in lower engine speeds through this design, but you can betchya I'll be switching once money permits. I think this design is one of reason's why the red limit was set lower than the n/a 1.8's (6200).

That will vary a lot pending what area you are in.. www.car-parts.com is a good place to check though.. altough you are lieky to be better off with a phonebook and a telephone doing it the old fashioned way.<p>

$400 usd for a NB head with valvetrain is not bad, seems to be a going price at the JY.
