Post by bulldog131775 »

OK i HAVE BEEM SAVING MY MONEY FOR A WHILE NOW AND I BOUGHT I 93 MX3 1.8 V6 AND I AM LOOKING TO MAKE IT MORE POWERFULL. i CANT DECIDE ON WETHER TO SC IT OR DO A SINGLE OR TWIN TURBO FOR IT WHAT DO YOU OHTER MX3 OWNERS RECCOMENE. THOMAS KNIGHT TURBOS RECCOMENDED A SC BECAUSE OF LESS PROBLEMS WITH SUPERCHARGER AND ITS A LITTLE CHEAPER. ALL ANSWERS ARE WELCOME

actually i think thomas knight recomended a SC because there turbo kits are crap or so everyone on this board who has gotten one has said, but truely if you have a 1.8 and you want to go more hp then an engine swap is your best bet and cheaper then doing a custom Turbo and prolly cheaper than doing a SC as well. You can swap the 1.8 to a 2.5 Klze (Jspec) engine for around 2k this engine is a direct swap with little modifications to be done and it runs at 200hp
hoped this helped some

your shifter will work cause you will still use the same tranny just upgrade your clutch (ACT stage 2 is a good choice) and yes your prm intake will work as well cause you can A use the 1.8 intake manifold ( you will loose a bit of hp doing this) or B pick up a manifold from a millinia which is the curved one and it will fit as well

Be advised the KLZE will most likely not produce the claimed 200HP because of our low octane gas, and the MX-3's ecu. You can get the high grade gas plus maybe an octane booster, you can also get an ecu from the KLZE engine to get the full 200HP. Also, you can put a turbo on the 2.5L if you want to. It has been estimated that the KLZE can handle around 8-10psi on the stock setup. There have been claims it may be ablr to withstand up to 14psi with better fuel managment. This is mostly uncharteted territory although many of us have plans to turbocharge the KLZE engine.
There is also a US equivelant of the KLZE engine found in the V6 version of the MX-6, 626, and the Ford Probe GT called the KL03. (People on tis board will call them KL, KL03, and occasionally a KLDE but they refer to the same engine) This engine only produces 160-170hp instead of the J-Spec's 200, but it is much easier to put forced induction on this engine because of the larger margin of error. You can also pick this engine up cheaper than the KLZE. I can personally get them for $200. There are people that are attempting to build a "home-made" KLZE by buying the KL03 and putting in the parts that differ between the engines. The parts include, pistons, rods, intake manifold, and I believe the heads are different as well.
Notes:

They usually need a little work, like a minor rebuild, but ya can't go wrong for $200. The only problem is availability. If you're interested I can go down and see how many they have. I will be going down probably early next week, or next weekend to pick one up for myself. I will check to see if they have any others. Also, any turbo is $50 if you're interested in that

I told you a long time ago man. Remember, you said your friend decided to get an MX-3 because I could get him an engine so cheap.
Jesse, I meant a monor rebuild as in the engine is not running. Could be anything from a blown gasket to a burned piston. Obviously I'd find out what's wrong before I bought it.
Shaun, I should be going out there either this weekend or early next week, so I will check to see how many engines they have. Also, let me know if you want a turbo, and what kind.
