323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
Hey Guys. I have the numbers for my 1988 323 GT with the BPT 1.8 motor swap. The car made 237 horsepower at the wheels at 12PSI. Unfortunately it blew the transmission up on the 14PSI run and hence I don't have any numbers to report for the elevated boost runs. Derrick from Corksport is faxing me the sheet and I will try to get it scanned and post it. I am pretty bummed
about the tranny but until he tears it down I am unsure as to why it blew? The car made peak horsepower at 5700RPM and peak torque of 228.7 pound foot at 4700RPM. If anyone wants a list of my mods just ask and I will post them. I will try agin next month for the 14PSI and 16PSI runs. Thanks Fellas.
Brett Payne
Manager
M2 Performance.

did the t3/t4 mount to the factory manifold or did you have to have one made? also, what characteristics does the n/a head have that makes it a better choice over the stock gtx head?

Re: 323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
I had a custom Garrett Hybrid made that bolted up to the stock manifold. It was fairly expensive but it gives good gains without having to fabricate a new manifild. Here are some pictures of my car with a new Japanaese spec fron tend. It needs a paint job badly! hey, the link didn't work. what did they do to fit the turbo? weld a compatible flange to it? also, what was your reason behind the n/a head? thanks.

Re: 323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
Thats strange the link works for me? I had them custom machine the VJ-20 to fit the Garrett GT30 catridge inside and then mate it up to the stock housing and manifold.
Brett.

Also the N/A head flows much better than the regular BPT head. In fact it looks almost the same as the rare 323 GTR head!
Brett.

Sorry to disappoint you, but even the cams are basically the same, but with different base timing.

Hey Jesse talk to Derrick at Corksport about the heads. The BPT is a little more restrictive. Have you seen both of these heads in person?
Brett.

Re: 323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
i have a pretty extensive photo library of both heads, and have been talking to the Turbo GT guys for a couple of years now, as well as Braden, so im fairly confident that im right here..... nobody has been able to give firm specs on the GTX cams either, so to the best of our knowledge, they are the identical to the NA cams, as visual inspection wont help. Only the GT-R head is an improvement over the other two heads, with the larger sodium valves and more turbo oriented cams.

Hey 007 thats what I had done. I am sorry I did not explain the process correctly. Email me if you have any questions about the swap.
Re: 323 BPT 1.8 Dyno Numbera
I am running it at 8PSI as I have way to much wheelspin even at that power level. I have not tracked the car yet but I am afraid I will be hard pressed to break a 13 second time as the car has zero traction. The turbo is the GT30 hybrid which is good up to 25PSI.
Brett.
