Convertible MX-3
I know a T-Bar has been done but i want to take it a step furthur has a full convertible conversion ever been done? would the car be structuraly sound if i did it to mine? I ve been doing some rough drawings and it looks pretty sweet i will try to upload them if i can get my scanner working, I know this isnt gonna be cheap to do but im seriously considering it, having just forked out for my new Volk GT7 gunmetals im gonna have to wait a for the funds to build back up. Any thoughts on the subject?

Re: Convertible MX-3
It has never been done.
If you search these boards it has been discussed before several times.
Personally I think it would look retarded even if it was possible.

Re: Convertible MX-3
it you do this... a roll cage is a must or you will have a like 99% chance of dying in a rollover accident.

Re: Convertible MX-3
it can be done, you'd definatly need to stiffen the chassis underneath to make up for the lost roof and the stiffness that it provides. It'd be neat to see, but i just cant picture it looking good at all.
either way good luck

either way good luck

Trust me I wont do this if its gonna look bad, I wouldnt be able to live with myself if i defaced my beautiful car, ill get some proper sketches or photoshops knocked up and see what people think, im not one to leave stuff to chance.

Hey thats good, be a bit conservative on something the scale of this. I don't reckon I could take an oxy to my car! But I'll reserve any opinion until I see the photoshops or whatever. Cause if you could pull this off it just might be something really special!Trust me I wont do this if its gonna look bad, I wouldnt be able to live with myself if i defaced my beautiful car

Re: Convertible MX-3
I think it ould sorta look like the new miatas, you would have to also remove the hatch and do some osrt of hood convertion..possibly from the miata..and make it seater i believe. AS for structural part eeee they are right you would need to place alot of beams underneath..the car would just bent the heck out of it.... yes it can be doine but thats up to you. I think its better to just get a new miata o.0 :p just my 2 cents.

Re: Convertible MX-3
I imagine it would look somewhat like a 95-99 cavalier convertable considering you'd need to put on a custon trunk

Re: Convertible MX-3
plz dont do it.
it would destroy the whole purpose of the mx-3. also it would be very unsafe.
you would have to a lot of body mods and stregthen the car up and it would cost so much money.
just buy a convertible if you really want one, thats what i did.
most convertible sports cars have a wide stance and a very low center of gravity, and a good suspenion making it hard to roll over

In any convertible the chance of being killed in a roll over are very high, if i rolled my miata ( not going to happen unless someone hits me )it you do this... a roll cage is a must or you will have a like 99% chance of dying in a rollover accident.

Re: Convertible MX-3
or if you are really obsessed and have the money to spare just get a miata and do a front end conversion.
