Stock Bumber, Fenders, Rear Bumber removal

Post by your2slow »

Hey all, I'm in the process of removing my front/rear bumbers and fenders. Anyone have a write up on the easiest way to do this. I'm having some trouble finding the bolts needed to remove everything. Pictures would be great. Thanks.

I also need help on taking out one bolt on the fender. I can get the top ones out but what is the fastest way to get the one near the door?

Well..here is the skinny for the front fenders and bumper.

Edit: I will be removing my fender on sat weather permitting so I will post pics of the fender proceedure. I'll also make some shots and notes about the bumper. Then maybe this will make it to the FAQ.

All of this is with the hood up.

Useful/needed tools:
-ratchet set
-small rachet (you don't need a large one if you have this... and it fits in small spaces)
-screwdriver set with hex bits (so they fit the rachet)
-small prying tool (like a spreader tool or small chisel)

Note: it is all metric, so metric sets are even better. Most bolts are 9mm or 6mm.

Front bumper: (note, this is for each side)
-Remove the front upper bolt connecting it to the frame
-Unscrew the 2 screws just inside the top of the bumper holding it to the impact material
-loosen the nut slightly that holds that bracket in, allowing it to swing out of the way
-at the wheel well remove the 1 bottom screw, and the one holding it where it meets the fender
-remove the front turn signal (1 screw), and then the bolts behind it
-go under the car and remove the plastic mounts (2-3) for the bumper. Do this by prying the center part out, then the full piece
-The bumper should come off now if you gently pry the side parts to the side and pull strait off.
-Now, slide the turn signals through the bumper and remove the bulbs from the far side lights to allow the bumper to come completely free.

Fenders:
-if you have a GS, remove the mud guard by taking out the screw on the bottom of it then the plug/screw on the top part of it, it pulls off.
-undo all the screws inside the wheel well edge
-undo any screws at the bottom where it wraps under
-remove the bolts under the hood along the upper edge of the fender
-check for any bolt/screws where it met the bumper
-open the door, and remove all bolts/screws securing the fender. There may be a plug as well, pry it out.
-lift the bottom out, then slowly lift up and away. the fender should come off.

Keep in mind there are for each side, so double the bumper instructions and repeat the fender ones.

No clue about the rear as I haven't taken it off.
