sideskirts - someone find another source!

Post by thebox »

Are there any sideskirts that are close enough in length to the MX-3 from another car that would adapt easilly? We have few choices of sides and I do not like any of them. I want something low but simple.... I like the OEM style side just fine but in my opinion it should be lower... it just looks like it should be lower, at least to me. I'm not saying like scraping the ground stupid low or anything, but you know... something decent.

those are the mazdaspeed skirts that i molded w/ a set of rx-7 sideskirts and was a ***** to get fitted on my car. that's the final product though. total tally:
mazdaspeed skirts: 200 used
rx-7 skirts: free (used some skirts that i was going to install on the fd but got different skirts for instead. costed me around 150ish cause it came in a kit)
materials: $20ish
repaint: free at a nearby shop that said hooking up an mx-3 alone will pay for the skirts to be painted.

because most companies that support our cars are not into the style that is simple or looks like stock. i know it might be offensive to some of you, but face it. the only kind of kit you can find on mx-3s are something really aggressive except for the mazdaspeed/corksport bumper and sides. so i just decided to do these skirts to look different. also making a mold of them and making the skirts urethane are wayy better too. i dont want to ever have to have my skirts damaged and eaten up again (which is what happened and why i decided on a mold and making the urethane ones)

IOW: the only skirts out there are pure rice! I hate the FX skirts, too agressive, and they don't really "flow" with any of the kits they are sold with. g-force skirts are ok, but still don't really flow well with any kit.

Your skirts look badass though. I have a pair of corksport MS skirts i've yet to fit up. If i knew how to work with fiberglass, I'd have already modded them to cover the entire legnth of the side similar to how yours are.

gro harlem, its actually pretty simple to do. i modified the skirts and blended them with some other skirts, body filler a few of the really rough spots, then made a fiberglass copy of the skirt itself. then to urethane it, i just covered in urethane and used the original and laid into the urethane, squeezed really tight and just let it dry. the urethane was really flexible so i fiberglassed the back for sturdiness.

if you haven't noticed, i chopped some of the top of the ms skirts (being too high it looked weird with the front side) and when blending the rest of the skirt with the ms skirt, it gets tricky to get everything to flow in once smooth piece. those that own the corksport/ms skirts know what i mean. the skirts curve inward when you move towards the front.
