my interior idea
Well my ZE parts are being shipped off to SiN Customs today to be airbrushed and powdercoated I started thinking about re-re-redoing my interior. I considered doing the fiberglass thing and then having SiN paint....but I've opted for something else.
Diamond plate. Kinda heavy, kinda pricy....but damn if it doesn't look cool, and is very durable. I want to gut all the plastic in the trunk and have an all diamond plate floor and sides fabricated...it'll be pretty square and boxy like a pick-up truck bed. the diamond plate will surround my sub enclosures, spot for my amp and nitrous bottle....and I was even thinking of having little compartments added for my tools. As for the cabin my dash trim would be diamond plated, as well as the contours of my door panels diamond plated.
There is a metal shop close to my work where I can get the diamond plate wholesale (I work in an industrial district as a heavy equipment opperator) and there is a great custom interior shop called Dashworks west of here that could no doubt do the fabricating. When the pieces are made I'd ship them off to SiN to be powdercoated....of coarse the pollished steel look is cool too.
any thoughts or sensible critisism?

Re: my interior idea
hm the diamond plate would look decent as long as you dont cover every little corner with the stuff.. just the basic stuff like those dash kits on ebay.

Re: my interior idea
Not too sure about doing it on the dash....Might look cool and all...but what about in an accident? Could you imagine hitting it? OUCH. Just my 2 cents.

Re: my interior idea
yeah not cool....part of the reason I was just thinkin' dash trims...the other to avoid the overkill factor.Originally posted by cjthor:

I think I'm gonna stick mainly with a total diamond plate trunk space...accented dash and doors.
thanks gang

Re: my interior idea
UPDATE: diamond plate interior is a GO. I found a metal fabrication shop not too far from me that says they will do it, I'm just waiting till after Christmas to get started and work out a good deal. Instead of doing my whole dash in the diamond plate I'll be doing the following. There is a strip right against the windshield where the defog vents are. That whole section will be diamond plated. The spot right above the glove box will have a plate with MX-3 cut out of it so the vinyl shows through. Some accents on my dash around vents and shifter etc.
All the details on my door panels and the entire trunk space.

Re: my interior idea
It sounds like a real good idea but i hope your gona put padding underneath the diamond plate in the hatch area. All that metal on metal contact would rattle like CRAZY.

Darren,
Would you think that there will be too much reflection off of diamomnd plate bits that are on your dash. May be difficult to drive in sunny weather.

Re: my interior idea
Ya know, I never thought about that. Excellent point. perhaps I'll just limit it to the windshield defog strip and kickplates, around shifter and door panels like that.Originally posted by JDM:

Re: my interior idea
I originally painted my interior trim white, and recently re-sprayed them in a "chrome" paint, both very reflective surfaces, and on sunny days my black dash tends to throw more reflection in my face than the vents. I'd say go ahead with the diamond plate trim on the vents, it'd look sick.
