blue flames! yay!

Post by superslacker »

this isn't really a problem, but it's soooooo damn cool and i thought i'd share it. i've seen some rx-7s that shoot blue flames, but never in a lifetime would i expect my very own mx-3 to be THAT badass. by some fluke of my exhaust it's set up in a way that allows for blue flames to shoot out of my dual tipped stainless steel muffler. some friends and i were ****ing around in a parking lot when this kid started revving his integra trying to show off his exhaust. of course i have to out do the kid, and i revved the mx up real slow, and then let off and punched it to get the popping backfire noise. one of my friends was like, "dude i swear i saw a glow in your tailpipe." so i rev it up real slow to about 5k rpm and start popping it by letting off the gas and slamming it real quick repeatedly. i hear pop pop pop pop whoosh. this is quickly followed by hoots and hollars. i let my friend take the seat so i can go behind the car and see it for myself. the car was shooting blue flames out the dual tips about 4 or 5in in length, and then once the flame starts coming raising the RPMs closer to redline had some coming out a foot or more, and even some small fireballs. after all this excitement i could see the inside of my muffler glowing orange, and then i notice another glow under the car. it looked like neons, but it was definitely my catalytic converter glowing completly bright orange. :welder:

Nice, I would just hold the pedal to the floor and wait for the engine to pop, way cooler!

HAHAHAHAHA ;)

Change it..

It is not fire ball.. it is piece of you ceramic in the Cat that is getting thrown out..

change it, or change your engine later on..

the cat on it is new, replaced about two months ago. the only thing under the hood is an intake. the K8 in it now was just dropped in out of a totalled mx-3 at the yard with 84k miles on it. believe me i definitely wouldn't believe it either if i didn't see it myself. give me a few days to get ahold of someone's video cam and i'll show you guys 1st hand what it's doing. my completly unsupported hypothesis is i have some ****ed up sensors making the fuel mixture too rich. i really don't have any reason to bull**** or stretch the truth... if i was goin to do that i'd come up with something a bit cooler then flames coming out the exhaust. i'd tell you about my six speed, all wheel drive, rotary twin turbo, mx-3 with s15 headlight conversion running 10 sec 1/4 miles.

NOt to say that you are untruthful. But blue flames are really cold. I never seen car shoot blue flames. May be if you run propane or so. I remember a 20B na Rx-7 shooting orange flames. Would be interesting to see though.

actually, a blue flame is hotter than an orange flame.
I looks like something is definately wrong with your engine.

indeed....cutting torches have blue flames. So do those butane crack lighters.
of course color can also be determined by its fuel..
