painting plastic trim

i'm painting my interior's plastic trim tomorrow and was wondering what kind of paint would work best for this application? also, is it really necessary to sand down all the parts in order to get a good finish? any help is appreciated. thanks a lot.

I used the brand Dupli-color bought from carparts. I did not sand but I did scrub the plastic pieces with a degreaser and water to get all oils off. dry the pieces with paper towels and try not to handle them because fingerprints are greasy. Spray very light coats and even as you go. turns out much better with plenty light coats rather than 1 thick coat.<BR>the key is light coats and plenty of them, usually 5 or 6 coats or until you see no plastic colour underneath and you are happy with the painted piece.

yeah i was thinking of painting my interior trim but does anyone have any good pictures of there trim already painted and put back in im tryin to decide what trim to paint...thanks [img]shrug.gif"%20border="0[/img]

on 92/93 dash,<BR>Most people paint the vent surrounds (some the entire vent) the center console is usually painted along with the trim around the shift boot. Electric window button surrounds are usually done and some do the plastic piece behind the door handle, others do the speaker covers. The trim around the gauge cluster is sometimes done as well. <P>there are a lot of websites from people on this board where you can go look. also some have a sounddomain page with pics of their rides where you can also see some painted dash pieces.<P>have fun
