Full custom interior !!!!

Post by Brainless »

Hey guys, I have the brown/beige interior found on early RS model and it's really ugly. So I'm planning to completely redo the interior of the car using blue, red and a bit a silver paint. I also plan to have my seat redone in blue and red. This will be my summer project for my car :D . But first I need to be sure of what I need to get and do.
-What kind of paint?
-What kind of primer?
-What kind of clear coat?
-What material for the seats (front and back)?
-What material for the door insert?
-What should I do about the carpets?
-Anything I should know from others' experiences before I start?
Thanks to all those who will take the time to help me!!! ;)

i used a satin-based spray paint (about 4 light coats) and about 5 coats of satin based clear coat. Make sure you clean the surface with rubbing alcohol before you start to paint. Also, make sure everything is 100% dry before adding another coat. Get a fine-bit sandpaper to smooth everything out...here's how mine came out...
Image
Image
[ March 03, 2002: Message edited by: Bri94GS ]

I'm a little worried about the soft parts on the doors (if you know what I mean). Do you think I can use the same kind of paint?

Talk to Barry...CustomMX3....he tried something else...instead of painting the doors, he covered them with some sort of white vinyl...looked pretty hot...he can probably explain it better than i can...

I'm mean the soft "plastic" that's around that.

yea, you can prob use the same spray that you use for the rest of the interior then. Just make sure you clean it off good, all the Armor All, etc. needs to be 100% off. I wouldn't recommend white though, it's gonna be hard to keep clean.

i wouldnt spray paint the cushiony part around the door insert area its not plastic and if its not plastic the paint wont work on it trust me i did it with my old prelude. if you really want to change the color of it take it off and take the material off the door insert and die it its a whole hell of a lot better looking and will look good, paint wont look good where its not plastic trust me ive done so much painting on cars that i know what looks good and what doesnt.

mzdamxstyle - are you talking about the black piece that goes along the bottom of the frame of the car (where your feet usually hit)?
