I had some trouble the other day getting my car to start. It would start but then I would have to rev it up quite a bit to keep it started and now it will not start at all...any thoughts, mabey the fuel pump?

If you had to rev it up to keep it running, I'd guess vacuum leak. Otherwise, not starting at all sounds like a bad distributor.

is there some sort of leak in your air intake?

Remove the big ribbed intake hose and flex it while inspecting closely for cracks, especially between the ribs. Might not be the cause but it fits your symptoms and is often overlooked. If you find any cracks, a temporary seal can be made w/duct tape til replaced. Your problem sounds like this type of unmetered air leak into the intake stream.

Another way to check for leaks in the intake system (assuming you can get the car to start) is to have somebody rev the engine while spraying WD-40 around any joints or possible leak points. You'll see the mist getting sucked in and also hear a change in the engine.
