If you had to pick only one - Headers or cat-back?

Post by lakersfan1 »

Which would you do and why if you only wanted to dish out the money for one of the two mods. Keep in mind a KLDE, not a K8.

headers definitely, they are the main restriction.

Just having headers w/stock exahsut is still going to increase power a damn bit. the stock exhaust (at least the one on my car) actaully flowed pretty damn good.

Shoving a catback on there with stock manifolds & downpipe will net you pretty much ZERO gains. Only gains you'll get are dB's inside the car.

In my situation (96 kl-ze) my 1/4 mile time dropped almost .8/sec. The only mod was the new headers.

On my budget, there is no question....the cheapest. Maybe even used. I think there's only one style recommended not to buy. The old OBX or something? Anyways, I'll worry about it when my KL rebuild is done. Should have my next bonus check by then.

Hot Shots have been dynoed against stock probe manifolds and gained 14 or 15whp. IIRC this was done on a straight neck ze w/2.5 exhaust. Go to Probetalk, there is a thread there.

The actual mod list: full KLZE, cm3, fidanza, 17" rims, home depot intake, 2 1/2" piping from the cat-back, magnaflow muffler, no cat, msd wires, ngk bkr plugs, phenos, aem afpr @43wot and now Hotshot headers.

That's a max gain of 13.7hp and 7.5trq.

But even more impressive is the gains from 5,800-6,200rpm! 28hp! Almost 30hp!

This is from the actual post, I just dont know *** to post a url for a thread.
