Lucas Oil Stabilizer...Yea or Nay?

Any thoughts on Lucas Oil Stabilizer? At first, I thought $9 for a bottle of this was outragous, until i tried some in an attempt to stop a noise in my workhorse car. My '89 Nissan Pulsar NX had an engine tick and after i used a bottle of the Lucas along w/ an oil change the tick stopped. My mechanic, a Ford mechanic for 30 years, says he loves the stuff.

hmm i might try it, its on display at local parts store, got 2 diff gears and theyre lubed up one with regular oil one with lucas, so one with lucas supposed to spin more freely

I've always wondered about that stuff I've seen at the auto stores. I've wondered if it was a gimmick like the two gears in the display case were rigged (light weight oil in the reg oil side and heavy in the "lucus" side) but I've also heard from people that the stuff is really good and that he's uses it in his race car and crap. May also give less performace if it increases friction from being thicker like that. So I dunno my guess would be that it'd be good if you use your car as a daily driver but may be power robbing if you uses your car as a racer.

i think using a good synthetic motor oil is adequate enough not to use additives like lucas

You know what, my RS has 171,000 miles on all original parts besides the waterpump, timing belt, front main seal, and cam gear selas, only because I wanted to change them all at once. I also had to replace the alternator because of my high powered audio system. Ive used Lucus for years... never had one issue with it. I even have the transmission additive in my auto tranny of my RS, which is all original besides the filter, 171,000+ miles.
Seeing is one thing, experiencing is something else.

.. and one more thing, wheres all the heat in this experiment???

As I understand it, Bob's findings are that it does no good. The fact that people have used it for a number of years without the car failing doesn't mean it did them any good. It just didn't do any readily detectable harm.

it probably doesn't do any harm, for everyday driving.

bob's tests are if you are intensely beating the crap out of your car, like if you were racing. Thats when the froth & air will get up and screw with the lubrication properties.

I don't know if I'd use it in our cars. The stuff seems thick, yet we want our oil thin so it can seep into our HLA's. I'll use it on an automatic tranny or power steering pump as a friction modifier, but not in my engine.
