OBDII Workshop Manual at last!!!

Post by IanL »

I have managed to get a copy of the 1996 MX-3 Wiring Diagram and Body Electrical Troubleshooting manuals - thanks to a really nice guy on this board who knew my interest.

So we now have access to the OBDII wiring information - I won't post scans on the net, for the same reason that the 1995 Manual had to be removed from this site, but I'm happy to help out with queries.

Quick update - the OBDII K8 pinout scheme is 100% different to the OBDII KL scheme - I think the Mazda electrical engineers must have had some instructions about making swaps difficult.

I'm just finishing an Excel spreadsheet with the various schemes cross-related, which I'll be happy to email to the membership, and it could go into the FAQ too.

Yes, I have the '93 MX-3 wiring diagrams. Its 139 sheets, mostly double A4, many double-sided, so I'm not planning to scan them, but I'll answer a query.

Update for OBDII swappers:

It looks like the OBDII K8 ECU connectors No 1, 3 and 4 are the same as the OBDI No 1, 2 and 3, BUT (at a quick count) there are six differences beween the No 1s, three between No 3(OBDII) and No 2(OBDI), and seven between No 4(OBDII) and No 3(OBDI), which affect MTX (more for ATX).

And OBDII No 2 connector has no correspondence, of course.

So Plug-and-Play it isn't :(

I haven't got connector drawings for OBDII KL, but just by inspecting the ranges of letters it looks like there is no commonality with OBDII K8. So nothing that a complete rewire can't cure :D

If you can scan the sheets containing the ECU plug pin-outs and their function you'd pwn.

It shouldn't be more than 4-6 pages. My 1991 Mazda 323/Protege Manual has all of the ECU pinout crap on 6 pages for two different engines.
