What can be used from the KL-Ze on the K8

Post by Mikee »

Hi guys, I am from Holland and I am about to do a Kl-ZE swap, but the law here is very tight. Once I have made the swap I would have to pay for all sorts of tests to get my new paperwork due to the new engine number. Over 70HP power gain means, new drive test, brake test, sound test, bla, bla, bla and $$$$$$$$
So my question to you experts is:
can I use the cams from the Kl-ze on the K8 or can I use the complete Ze heads on the K8.
I am looking for some way of gaining some HP without changing engine number. and guys it dont have to be 70Hp gain, give me 30 or 40 and I am happy.
Thanks to everyone whos supports lost souls like me.......

Cams I believe only..
Heads will not work. Intake mani has square runners, and yours has round, they would have to be port matched. Thats about all I can think of.

Would ZE cams in a K8 help performance wise? I would think so but what about hp/tq #'s?? I am about to change my head gaskets so i figure when my valve cover is off i might swap some ZE cams....

All K series cams are interchangeable except the KJ (Supercharged 2.3l)... From what I understand.

Can you add a supercharger without having to retest your car?

Nope, if you fit a turbo you must retest and I think a Supercharger would fall under that category.
I had a feeling the heads would not fit due to the bigger bore on the cylinders.
Now wondering what gains there would be from using the ZE cams and ported and polished ZE intake....anyone fitted a Ze intake on a K8?

If i could find a set of affordable ZE cams i prolly would do the swap and dyno test to see if there is an increase in HP or TQ.

Well, you could consider this possibility instead of a KLZE:
Get a KFZE and its ECU. That will give you the 30 to 40 hp you're looking for. Then bore your K8 block to take the KF pistons (from 65 to 68 mm) and swap everything over. I think the stroke is the same so you could keep the crankshaft and conrods.
You keep the K8 engine number ;)

I don't know if you CAN bore the K8 out that much, though. Anyone ?

Re-shaped and re-sized gearshift lever. Best driveability mod you can do!
Extra thick soundproofing in the boot (trunk) to quieten my stainless steel exhaust system :)

Just go ahead and do a KL-ZE swap and then Stamp the old Engine Number onto the KL-ZE block. I don#t think anybody will check this,

If they look at the number, its because they are suspicious. If they are suspicious, they can tell a changed number, and they can read the original which was ground off.

We get cars stolen in the Far East offered for sale in Europe, so they know about these tricks.

The KFZE cams are the most aggresive of any K series engine, which means the most gains.
