'98 Escort Zx2 > Any Good?

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

My sister's been looking for a car for about 2 months now, she's been hooked on getting a 95+ Cavalier, but my dad won't let her cause its a POS car, especially with high milleage, but those are the only ones in her price range She doesnt want an Mx-3 cause I have one (something about it being weird) or a Ford Probe 2nd gen, but most are MTX. Now we might have found something we will all agree on, the Zx2...i believe its very similar to the mx-3, but it comes with a 2.0l 4cyl....so, is it a good car/engine, or should we look elsewhere?
[ July 04, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

My friend has one, it is a pretty good car. He has an ATX and said something about the MTX gears not being good, but I believe he was referring to racing. He did mention that they have a long throw between gears so your sister should drive one and decide what she thinks. My friend is kinda short too which may be why he didn't like the throw length. They're a decent little car and I think they're pretty roomy and have good trunk space. They aren't the quickest either but for their size and intended purpose, as a passanger vehicle for daily driving, they are quite enjoyable.

There okay.. had a delivery driver who had one it held up to about 120k miles before it had major probelms.. Delivering pizzas is fairly hard on a car too.
I dun like ford but it wouldnt be a horrid choicee.
I had one as a rental car once.. i really didnt like it.. kinda small on the interior, if i were her i would put my eyes on a focus. There a bit more roomy on the interior.
[ July 04, 2003: Message edited by: torpedan ]

they're good cars, I know a couple of people that had escorts, no major problems and they loved them. I think in the $5k range though, (ruling out the mx-3) the 2nd gen integra ('90 - '93) is a better bet, especially if you can find one from an original owner IMHO.

had escorts and no major problems? Man if it is a ford and built between 1980 and 2003 , then its a low quality piece of ****. Theres a reason why you see 2000 focus's for less then 10000, they dont have any quality standards. I worked with a guy that had a focus wagon and the thing sounded like it was going to fall apart, and it was less then a year old. And of course this doesnt just apply to the focus. Tell her to just buy a toyota or a mazda if she wants a reliable car.
PS Im just trying to help! Not putting her choice down, I just have a grudge against ford, they've almost killed my parents a couple times with there shotty craftsmenship. My parents went toyota and never looked back.

my sis has a 2000 ZX2 and I like it. No major problems, and she drives it a lot (back and forth to college -- 4 hr drive). They are surprisingly fun to drive if they are manuals too. They have a cool clutch that's pretty sweet to launch.

I think it all depends on how the car has been treated in the past.
If they were treated well before then you in for a good find.
I gotta friend that has a ZX2....her mom got it new off the lot and told me she never mistreated it. Its got alot of miles on it now (i forget how many) but its been very good to my friend.
Well this is wut i think sooo good luck in yo hunt!
