Hi

My gs is a little hard to start and when it does it blows a puff of blue smoke which immediately disappears. It runs soomthly and well and never blows blue smoke when started. Could leaky valve covers cause this??

My guess is worn valve guides. Oil drips down valve stems when the engine is stopped, and pools on top of the valves. It enters the cylinders when the engine starts.

When you're running, it isn't enough to notice.

bad valve seals if it doesn't burn it all the time. Have someone you know follow you when your on the highway, and downshift so the car revs at a high rpm....see if the person says that your car blows blue smoke, if it does, its teh valve seals which are a PITA to replace.

I got a quote from a mechanic to do the valve seals on my old K8 and he wanted $800 per bank! So it's cheaper to run the car until it fails Emmissions / Aircare or whatever and then put a replacement engine in.

I still have 6 months warranty on the car. Shall I get it fixed? A whole rebuild?
