I'm sure it's been done, but I'd assume it would be much cheaper to upgrade to a 2.5 motor. If you're going to go through the work to pull the engine, you might as well go bigger.

What's wrong with the engine you want to rebuild?

at the local mazda dealer there is something special you can ask for, just go in ans ask for an estimate, its free, and they will tell you whow much everything will cost, just dont go telling everyone about this , we want to keep it a secrete.

P.S. I have aranged for this secrete service to be provided by every local mechanical garage in the world, I personaly set this up just for the users of MX-3.com, so you can go anywhere and ask for this service and get free price quotes, but try to keep it on the down low, we dont want people to take advantage.
DONT SHIP WITH UPS!!! DIE UPS DIE!!!!!

I needed my cam journal built up and rebored. With this my front head got polished and totally rebuilt. Vavles reseated, valve guides replaced and had it resurfaced. No work on HLA's Total cost to rebuld the one head was $600 canadian. But that was with $200 for the head build up. So $400 isn't too far offx2 and a little round up, shouldn't be more than $900 Canadian.
