Rev limiter not working??

Post by dancake »

It seems my MX-3 1.8 would rev on until it blew to bits if I gave it a chance. What form does the rev limiter on these cars take? if it is a knocker, then mine definately doesnt work as the engine will rev easily to the end of the redline without cutting off.
Its just a query, really! I dont make a habit of ringing my MX-3's neck to 8000rpm!!!

Mazda tachs read a bit optimistic in the upper rpm's.You probably arent as high in rpm's as it says and the rev limiter hasnt kicked in.

I have always heared there was a fuel shut off at 7700 rpm's. And atleast on the 2 GS's I've had thats been about right. When i was learning how to drive right i hit it a few time and it really hurt the et.

It makes sense I suppose: Every thing else works ok so its unlikely that the rev limiting part of the ECU would fail on its own!
Cheers guys
