Modifications???

Post by Oliver »

Pricing out the modifications to make a naturally asperated K8 racer. I could definatly use some suggestions.
-Bore to 1.9 or 2.0L???????How far can you go?
-Port and Polish
-Shave the heads - 12:1 compression???
-Custom made Forged Pistons(Where i don't know)
-High Compression head gaskets(Or would the stock ones be good enough?)
-Shot pean the connecting rods
-Knife edge the crank
-Regrind the cams
-Redo the exhaust 2.25"????
-Custom Ram air Intake
-Racing Pulleys
-Malbro Fuel Pump
-Fuel pressure regulator, is it needed????
-Bigger fuel injectors(how much hp can the stock injectors handle)
-60 or 65mm TB??
-ACT clutch
-Heat resistant Intake spacers
-Ignition system???very open to suggestions
If I'm missing anything please throw out some ideas, and correct me on any mistakes. Would anyone have a ballpark estimate on the HP that this engine would have. If i make this thing bulletproof and come up a little short on power, its nothing a little NOS won't cure. ;) But yes, thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

The second you increase the displacement over 1844cc it won't be a K8 anymore. It is possible to have the bore and stroke changed, re-sleeve the block of course, and have a 2.5L. It isn't worth it though when so many 2.5L blocks are available already. Mazda made a 2.0L V6 known as the KF. I believe they only overbored the K8 to create the greater displacement engine.

you can bore the cylinders to 3.0L then add a custom crank to make it 4.0L, custom forged 14.1 pistons will allow it to run on 91 octane gas.
you should see around 376.9 H.P. at the engine and it should only cost about $1,300.00 CDN

no one will have an answer to that one because its never been done. Thats a nice dream list but for a fraction of the cost just drop a kl-de or a kl-ze in and your there. All those mods might get you to the hp #s of a kl-de, 160. way to many variables to tell.

He was being sarcastic, plus I think he meant $13,000 CND, not $1,300.

good luck...it'd be cheaper and more effective to drop in the kl-03 or ze motor.

Ok, so the K8 is unknown as far as its potential is concerned. Thats fine, i'll just have to find out myself some day. So i'll ask a couple other questions.
-How big are the stock injectors?
-Whats the stock hp of the k series 2.0?
Well i guess i just had the question about the injectors, thought i had more. Thanks for the info that was given though guys, because if its not going to be fast, its not worth building up. But if it is, IT IS. ;)

Actually, the potential of the K8 is known. It's still less than a KLDE with only minimal mods, and much more costly.
