Too bad we cant get rid of the vaf

Post by mx3man83 »

I just put an intake on my GS yesterday. IT sounds cool and all, but i started it up without the vaf at first, and it was like 3 times as loud..any way to swap out to a less restrictive vaf??

well i remember reading that an rx7 vaf is more efficient for turbo set ups, but how restrictive is it??

You can trade the vaf for a maf if you know how to reprogram computers. If not good luck.

well the maf on my RS is even more restrictive than the vf on my RS so that wouldnt help out much.

The VAF is not restrictive at all. It's well capable in producing 200whp in a natural aspirated KL engine.

even with the PRM you still need the VAF. Take a look at the pics that I posted in another forum.....
before I forget here is the link....

would be nice if some company would make us chips so we can run mx without vaf thingy, that one good thing about older cars, they didnt had so much computer crap that is useless

the vaf cannot be removed without replacing it with some type of air flow measuring device and some measure air density too (not sure on that one but something like that...) so while reprogramming the ecu to work with a different measuring device like a maf or map sensor will get rid of the "restrictive vaf". why would you need to do that anyway? they all do they same thing. well i believe map sensor's are not sensitive to elevation. would that be atmospheric presure or air density?

You are missing the point. If you read my first post you will see that i said the VAF makes the intake not as loud, which is what I meant when i said it is restrictive. Sorry if that wasnt clear but i thought it was totally obvious.

I had a MAF(MAF was 73mm)conversion on my PGT-ZE for a couple of years, it was slightly louder but the results on the dyno where the same. I produced 184whp back them(2 years ago), I got the same results with my MAF conversion and with the KL VAF. The MAF conversion was custom, he won't make you one so don't ask who and how much. I sold it last year to someone that could of used more of the benefits then myself he was going to turbocharge his KL with 12psi of boost but never made it. The conversion allowed you to richen or lean the mixture with a control knob.
